Combo Amps

So I've been shopping around for new or used combo amps around 400 or under. I'm leaning towards the Rumble 200 or Ampeg B115. It seems whenever I play a combo with a 12 inch speaker it cannot hold the bottom end. Any opinions on that? This sure is a fun and informative website!

I would suggest a Traynor SB115 over both of them but the Rumble is a nice amp.

200 Watts and only 31lbs.
Fantastic sounding and can be pushed volume wise without farting out.
You would love it.

What do you mean hold the bottom end? Is it breaking up, not thuddy enough, not loud?

Prob more punch in speakers may help. BA115 def will Phart out on you. I had one since cell phones were sliders.

Traynor gear always impressed me, but it's not an easy find in the US, at least not where I live.

Right now the Carvin MB15 is on sale for just that amount. Lightweight and gets good reviews.

Also, for a couple hundred more you can get an extension cab for it later if need be.

I had a Traynor 12" 200 watt. Not bad at all but Traynor tone is not my cup of tea.

I tried the Traynor 15 inch single. Wasn't impressed. No big improvement over the 12 ".

I currently have the GK Mb112 II with the added 12" powered cab which gives me two 12's. Love 'em...but the single 12 sounds great (to me) by itself also.

I had an Ampeg BA115.....15" speaker.....didn't like it all and the GK gives me way more bottom end than the Ampeg.

I'm quite partial to the mid-scoop switch on the GK.


Guess it depends where you'll be using it too. Are you playing gigs or is it for home/mancave use?

If you made me choose between only Ampeg and Fender in that price range I'd go with the Fender Rumble.

The newer Hartke Kickbacks--the 15 especially--look good; I had the older, less powerful version, and it performed very well.

I played a b15 for many many years. I still use it at home. It is a great combo imho. You can always add a 210 cab for some extra punch. Good luck.

The new Carvin would be my first choice. I have the combo/extension and it replaced my whole stack. 2nd choice would be an old Peavey. Or two. Loud, clean, and HEAVY though. They sound kinda crappy, but a pre-amp will help alot.

You can get a used Rumble 500 combo for that much. Problem solved.

Great tone, light, loud. Can add an extension later for even more loud. And also, it's really freaking loud, did I mention that?

I just did exactly that, and couldn't be happier. Found it on GC's used gear site.

I LOVE my Ba112 v2! I don't like a giant low end because for me it just creates mud. I do quite enjoy the Ba115, though. Played a few Rumbles, and they're cool, but I didn't care for the overly done lows and the difficulty I had getting a non-scooped tone out of them.

I'm with you on the rumble assessment. I went shopping for a light loud combo a year or so ago and those were the first amps I went out to try, espically after the praise it has around here. Anyhow I got lucky and bought a GK MB212II here from the classifieds for $425 shipped. Very light, not too big & it can get very big, punchy and loud. 500 watts. Actually it is the only combo amp I've ever cared for.

I am very satisfied with my Traynor SB115. Performs amazingly well in just about all venues. I also own and use often a Fender Rumble 100 v3. The new Rumble v3 series is a pleasure to transport and does the job surprisingly well. -My personal experience with both.

I have recently used a band mates Rumble 200 for practice and it does not work well for me. I can't say anything bad about it. Nice little amp but for that amount I'd buy a head and cab used. All my amps are Ampeg so it might be a tone issue. My 2 cents.
