Combo Amps

I had an old Ampeg B115 and, it just didn't cut it. The same went for an SWR Working Man's 12. A Peavey Combo 300 and an SWR Working Man's 15 did the job. I still have the SWR 15 and like it very much.

i don't remember what my GK210 combo cost me new, and i get plenty of PA/FOH support, most gigs, so that really is enough. but: on the rare occasion that i've been required/asked to supply more: i bring an 18" cabinet to sit underneath the combo rig, get 500 watts, and am always asked to turn down during soundcheck (could've left the 18" at home!).

the GK stuff is pretty cool, too!

Last November I had a chance to audition at GC (Hollywood) the BA115, Rumble 200, TC Electronic BG250, Acoustic B100 and some Hartke, not sure which model but it had 12 inch. Hands down, the Ampeg for me. It delivers Ampeg goodness in every respect with the only drawback of being a tad heavy for those who mind that. Along with the Hartke it gives the player the ability to tilt the combo for better sound dispersion in tight quarters.

I use the tiny brother, the BA108 but if I were to upgrade, I'd give the BA115 a serious consideration.

Living in Canada where the stuff is made and readily available it's really easy to take Traynor for granted but it's generally a ton of bang for your buck. It's Long & McQuade's house brand and always available from them. With the Canadian dollar at about $0.70 against the US right now it would probably be worth buying from L&M and having it shipped.

Good to know.

I used to see them around Boston back in the '70s. A couple of the bigger stores carried them. They were moderately popular. A lot of watts for the money asked IIRC.

I concur. After auditioning the GK, Ampeg, TC Electronic, and Fender Rumble combos, I went with the Traynor SB112. I use this on smaller stages with FOH support, and I can report that this little combo is a beast!

TC Electronic BG250-112 (with piezo tweeter)... i love mine. it's loud... solid... versatile... lightweight... Class D electronics... simple to operate... onboard tuner... and built-in effects you can download and assign from your smartphone.

i know there's a squad of BG250 haters here... but hate and flame away... you're not gonna change my opinion.
