Brightness mostly. The blacks are the darkest and thumpiest. The white, copper and gold are all brighter. I believe the coppers are more acoustic sounding. There's good clips on youtube.Slight derail: {sorry}
What is the difference between the LaBella gold, copper, and plain white nylon tapes?

They feel different too from what I remember. It's been a while. The white/gold/cooper tapes feel almost like plastic more than nylon. Like a string inside a plastic tube. Very unique.Thanks Gorn. I'm not thinking, should have gone to youtube!

The coppers have a very warm sound with complex mids. Of the three, they're my fav. Close second goes to the golds which have a bit more 'singing' (for lack of a better word) quality. Those are the only two tapewounds I ever tried that I actually liked. I don't care for the original black tapewounds at all.
+1 with the Gorn Captain on the feel. It does feel more like they're in plastic tubes rather than wrapped in tape. Can't say I've ever felt anything quite like them either. That said they're quite comfortable to play.

OMG OMG OMG!!!
... They feel great under the fingers, and the tension is pretty good. Gotta be a little careful really digging in. They sit so much better in the mix. LOVE 'EM!!
Obligatory shout out to Jason (@SLaPiNFuNK) and the rest at BSO. You guys rock!!
When you say the "tension is pretty good" is it tight or more on the loose side? Do you think the Gold Tapewounds are easier on the fretting fingers compared to a set of 44/65/85/105 Roundwound Nickel?

I will say this:
I had a Daddario balanced tension set with a 145 b string on it before. It seems to be a bit lower tension. Or they could be more flexible. Or i could be totally wrong. I'm just a bass player.![]()
