Comments on Peavey Bass Amps?

Hey guys,

I've been looking to buy an amp and head at a good price, but most brands that I'm interested in are not carried by the local music stores and would have to be special ordered (which could take months)... so they recommended I look at Peavey.

I wanted to know if any of you have any experience with their Amps and Cabs. Where your experiences good or bad? I have a Peavey Cirrus BXP and I love it. I'm just not sure about their amps and stuff... So if you guys could help me it would be great.

Any of you tried or own the Peavey Tour?
What about Cabs, any of you tried out their Headliner series?

NitroBass 450 watt head and a 2X10 TVX cab. Tone for days, bulletproof, and as stated by the others 398lbs... worth it. I also have a 115TKO for backup, smaller gigs, and practice. Same deal just less power, not quite as much punch, but for 75 watts into a black widow you can't beat it. Their solid state stuff is great, the VB-2 is the "poor mans SVT" if you like tubes, and they're all indestructible. Go for it.

I've got a T-Max head which has great tone. Period. Not great tone for the price, just great tone. Same with the TKO 115s i had for 10 years before selling it to my father. Couldn't even sell it to someone that I wouldn't be able to buy it back from. I really enjoy the stuff Peavey makes. Even have one of their new Vyper guitar amps and it is incredible. You will not regret it, from a quality/durability standpoint. But your ears are YOUR ears, so whether the tone works is up to you.

I had a 130 watt bass head from the '70s that never let me down. I still have a 1x15 cab that's still in service. The head was reliable and gave decent tone (very clean, though). The cab is solid but is made partially of particle or press board so it's heavier than you'd expect. But it's seen lots of rough service and hasn't fallen apart. Even still has the original driver. Couple of weeks ago I heard a TNT 1x15 combo that was able to get ridiculously loud for its size, and nothing blew up or started on fire.

If Peavey were the only thing I could get my hands on, I wouldn't complain at all, though I'd want to add a little "character" with a stomp box beforehand if that capability weren't already present in the Peavey head.

There is really nothing wrong with Peavey Bass Amps, I still own a Combo 300 and
I use it for small gigs, I had a FireBass 700 and it gave me good service, had a chance recently to play through a Tour 700 head, and I was able to get some nice sounds out of it, I also have a VB-2, and it's a great tube amp for the money .... you can get pretty good service from Peavey and most amp techs say that they are pretty easy to work on .... so try before you buy, don't be influenced by what others say you should have ... unless they are writing the check

I've used Peavey bass amps for years. My most recent acquisition is a Peavey BAM modeling amp. It's heavy at 95 lbs. but boy, does it sound great. If it's got enough power for your needs, and sounds like you like, it's doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

I used Peavy combos for both of the seriously gigging rock bands I've been in. I also vouch for them as loud, very decent sounding, and very, very dependable bass amps. I'd recommend them without hesitation.

PS: Yes, they are heavy.

I've owned over 50 amps... one of them was used at well over 1000 continuous gigs.. always throw into the airplane as luggage... zero issues.

I started with an Ampeg SVT.. it lasted about a month.

Commonly I'll prefer the durability of a Megabass, Sesssion, Basic, (sometimes a GK or Hartke) over dorking with tubes. If I need a tube sound, a DI box can send the correct signal.

Not the prettiest.. not the coolest.. definately the best value.

relax and enjoy what-all they have produced,i'd love a VB-3:hyper:,,Can ya loan me some spare change for a couple?:D),i may just pick up a VB-2,,still thought the new TNT/Tour combo sounded awesome and had quite a few desirable features for a LOUD A!! combo,,and(wrapping it up here),i sold my old TNT and just couldn't be without a Peavey:bawl:,so i bought a `Combo 300' just to `blow up the neighborhood' with as a member here stated one time

yes the VB-3 looks mighty interesting at 37 lbs and 300 tube watts,,,what are you contemplating buying?(haven't studied the solid state Tour heads very much,sorry,the VB's are a long deal fo sho:bassist:
