Completely unfair Ampeg vs. Ampeg shootout

I'm really l-oving my cab. I'm running the 210av with a shuttle 6.0. Plenty of punch, highs and mids - but it's got way more bottom than i'd expect.


Tried it with my aguilar 1x12 stacked vertically, and I love the tone. The stack gets loud - I like having a tall vertical stack ... haven't tried it with the band yet but i have a feeling it is gonna cut through amazingly and sound great.

right, well that's how i judge solid state gear, by its ampeg-copping abilities. i still think the lmii is right up there. but over the last couple years, more stuff that cops realistic tones has come out. sure, i'm excited about getting this rig for christmas (who wouldn't?), but if i didn't think it copped the tones, i wouldn't say so.

you have way more of a life, bro...i seem to have a lot of downtime in mine these days ;)

thanks tom. quite a compliment to get props from you since reviewing bass gear is your big passion. the addition of the second cab will make the playing field quite a bit more level if not entirely so, and it would make the compares and contrasts way more apparent. honestly, though, i predict more of the same, only louder.

two cabs would give you 400w power handling at 4 ohms. probably not enough if you plan to crank your svt-cl up past the power tube distortion point, but should easily handle its clean output.

I have done the same test (cabinets only) and came to the same conclusion than Jimmy.
The 210AV is a really nice little cab and I have been loving mine. It's a cab that shines in the mix. Sealed cabs are really good at yielding that punchy warm tone and outlining the fundamentals.

as they should. honestly, that little cab has possibly the closest tonal resemblance to the old flatback cabs as any product they've made since. it's small but gets respect from my guys, too.

I've never actually played through a Flat back and it's years since I had sessions on a 74 cab which I can't remember sounding this good, although that's 20 years ago. Come to think, it's really a great scenario for the SVT, 1 pair @ 4ohms, a triple @ 2.67 ohms and a quad @ 2 ohms, all perfectly matched for an SVT, big venue, small venue the only weight you have is the SVT, I'm hooked and saving up for another one or two.
