A while back I decided to build a 2x8 from cut offs of honeycomb pannels we have at the boat factory where I work. These cut offs are between 10mm and 20mm thick. I wanted it to be slim and high so that I wouldn't need to elevate the cab when playing.
After trimming the pieces to size they got glued together using putty and then the entire cab was covered inside and out in one layer of fiberglass with resin. Then some bracing was added, 2 front to back and 3 side to side.
The BLANKO branded speakers I bought on ebay for 30$ a pair were advertised as 8ohm 100 watt, with a frequency range of 55 - 9000Hz.
some pics from the process
The vents are made from PVC pipe
There are 3 braces side to side in the finished cab
The baffle getting the edges reinforced
The finished product minus the handle that was added later
Evidently I did not care much for a pretty finish but I am very pleased with the result. The cab weighs 9kg ot just under 20 pounds and it sounds much better than dared to hope. Granted, I play in a duo with acoustic guitar so I don't need tooth rattling volume but l like it better than the Eden I have been playing for years.
Plus it's a laugh wenn people realize how much lighter the cab is than one would expect from its size
