Compressor for a fatter tone - option paralysis

My thoughts so far according to the reviews, recommendations and youtube:

- Diamond bass comp, because everybody seems to like it a LOT and it does sound big. Only worry I have with is the fixed ratio of 3:1 which might be too low for my needs
- Mad Professor Forest Green, just sounds awesome. I love that it has a tone knob as well
- JHS Pulp 'N Peel, gave me the same vibe as the mad prof and diamond but with the addition of blend control, overdrive and DI out. This one is my favorite so far
- Smoothie. Sold out :-( but seems to be the superior to the above

I have the Diamond now, and had the JHS. I didn't find them to be similar at all. It's very subtle compared to the Diamond and does not have that phatness. I think people assume it is similar to the Diamond because it has a tilt EQ like the Diamond, but the compression is totally different and very transparent.

ampeg opto comp has been the fattest i've tried, lmb-3, bc1x, mxr bass comp, spectracomp, aguilar tlc, opto comp for sure the fattest sounding one not everyones cup of tea but probably my best kept little compressor secret

No worries. I have a replacement tube coming in and I'm going to re-solder the foot switch to see if that takes care of things. Thanks again.

I'd stay away from the Markbass. I've got one collecting dust.

I think the Markbass is one of the best compressors out there for smooth fat tone. Too bad it’s so big.

I suggest you get a medium priced one designed in the last 10 years, hopefully used, then spend copious amt of time learning how to adjust it just right

That's exactly why I went for the TV Electronics one knob option with the artist toneprints
