compressor needed

Mine was easy to use and was very transparent. Until it broke. Twice. Now I'm done...My Line 6 Constrictor should arrive any day now.
I actually choked on my coffee when I read that.

No, I don't think there's any serious chance of breaking that Line 6 housing! The insert, I dunno.

Do they still make these? I bought one for $26 (new) at a Guitar Center sale a few years ago, but never have used it much. Let me know what you think.

trying to get a bigger pedal board to add the moog LP filter and phase 90, maybe also the moller or bass blogger..

Dude we have some seriously similar tastes! Here is my current board

And then a picture with the full setup including my Mutron stuff

thats a really great setup..i see u got the moog and the p90 too. :).
the oc2 into the blogger or moogerfooger (very little drive) into the phase 90 is one my fav tones.
i have never used any mutrons units but i've heard a lot about them.. also i would like to try way more gear than is avbl here like the analogman bicomp, the moog ring etc but these comps i mentioned were the best ones here (for the price),
but its getting better :)

Dude trust me, I already see the hassle of being in Europe vs the US with respect to trying gear, trading, having access to classifieds like TalkBass. People in the US have no idea how good they have it.

My only revenge was having access to Barefaced Bass products!

No, they don't make the Line 6 units anymore. I got mine shipped for $38 off eBay. My MXR unit it was the electronics that broke not the housing
same thing happened to my bbe.. but luckily just the dc input and the output jack need to be replaced.. the circuit is fine (they stopped making these units): it happened after a flight going for a gig..
great comp and i dont think its expensive.. worth chkg out second hand deals on Ebay (IMO)
(BBE WIP :))

my one US/canada tour i went absolutely nuts at the guitar stores (eg. bought the MF LP filter for $200 :) at west LA music, bought my bass in toronto, etc etc.etc etc. ) yup its GAS heaven.. If i lived there, forget shopping at stores, i'd go broke on craig's list alone, i'd prob end up as a homeless person pulling a cart full of gear:)

Apologize to have diferent answer here.
I don't really think the best compressor (even for bass) is the stomp pedals one, although they're not bad, and some of them should be good that many bass players use them. As majority of my work is in recording environment, Compressors for me are always the 'rack version', and as my favorite, it was an UREI LA-4 or Tube Tech CL-1B... right now is the one inside the Avalon VT737SP (comp, eq, tube mic pre unit). It is a very expensive 'channel strip rack unit', but it is excellent.

hi.. i share your view.. i have a dbx 160 which i bought second hand and use that for recording mainly.but i do need a compressor pedal coz i gig more than i record.. the best compressors i have used are the BAE and the chandler (abbey road edition).. i have also used the LA-3A once and loved it... all at studios for sessions.. i don't own any of these .. 2011 we were recording for the MTV coke studio and this englishman steve fitzmaurice was the sound engineer and he passed the bass through a whole rack of equipment (LA-2As, tube techs, shadow hills mastering comp!! etc) chk out the tone he got me, it may not be anything great but i liked it quite a bit :) (sorry if u don't like the track bro.. its quite bollywood, the video sync is attrocious but all of the bass was one take, no studio overdubs) :) )

The video is excellent..excellent song, excellent music, excellent singers, excellent musicians, excellent bass playing & sound,..I love it, tks :)

dbx160 is good.. probably much better than all the stomps in your OP list... is it too cumbersome for you to take it to any of your gig? (Worth the hassle tho IMHO)

thanks so much baba. means a lot :).
the thing about carrying the dbx around is that there is hardly anyone to service and supply spares and basic avlblty issues make it not worth the risk. i wanted to buy a backup but i can.t find one in bombay. but eventually i want to hunt down a good second hand deal on a la3a or 1176 then i can start taking the dbx for gigs :)

Off topic, but I really enjoyed that video (the sync didn't bother me one bit). Excellent musicianship all around, bass sounded fine, and I always find it great to see what TB'ers in other parts of the world keep themselves busy with.
