hello,
which compressor would you select if the choice was:

1) xotic SP compressor
2) T-rex squeezer tube compressor
3) MXR bass compressor

(i wanted some others but these are the only ones available here that i would consider)
(now there's a 4th one, the wampler ego compressor)

Here's a page of detailed reviews of lots of compressors, by a knowledgeable TBer. I've found Bongo's expertise extremely helpful. You could look up your three choices.

thanks.. i've done this already.. it is a great webpage .. i was wondering if anyone has gigged with these and had some further insight cause i plan to keep this pedal for a while.. (my last compressor broke down after 10 years and i'm having difficulty obtaining the spares)

The MXR is least likely to last 10 years. And while I don't know any actual cases of the T Rex breaking down, something about its construction makes me think it is in second place, longevity-wise.
thanks. i.m chkg out the comps mentioned plus the wampler ego. think its gonna be the xotic. though its a close one between the 2.

Mine broke down, but I am sure it had to do directly with using the wrong voltage..haha Either than that no complaints about it's lengetivity construction, I still have it as furniture after 3 yrs, lasted 2yrs with no issues. I will say that the VOX style knobs offer to your settings shifting all the time, you are going to have to memorize their positions or use some kind of marker to remember.

Assuming the t-Rex is based on the Dan Armstrong Squeezer circuit I would go with that. I think it sounds amazing on bass. And everything that I have seen from T-Rex is pretty damn solid. Plus keeping a compressor through 10 years of gigging a a pretty serious achievement.

the guy at the store was super kind to let me try the Trex, SP and ego comp at home.. i tried all 3 with my studio setup (adam a7x/rme fireface) and my bassman 135/warwick profet5.2 with the tc rs210 cab.. the wampler is the one for me.. for some reason the sp gives quite a loud hiss (almost impossible to use on mid and hi settings, especially when used with the bassman, i changed batts, tried a 9v adapter (trex) and i'm sure this is an isolated case, but the wampler comp was very quite in the same instances) . i do miss the old BBE opto stomp (white/yellow with red lettering) that i had and the ego does'nt quite do the beautiful liquid metallic sounding thing that the opto-stomp did when used after the VMT.. (or maybe i'll fig that out or fix the bbe eventually).. but i think the wampler is an almost studio-grade comp..way more versatile than the BBE and the blend knob is a great addition (to most bass pedal units).. thanks again for all the replies and thank you mr. brian wampler

hi, i tried the t-rex and still prefer the wampler ego comp.. i also prefer it compared tp the MXR or the EBS. it is very smooth and versatile.. i actually strongly suggest it.. as for longevity the most amazing pedal i have is the danelectro fab chorus (bought it at the same time as the BBE opto-stomp, 10 years ago) and its still like brand new, sounds great and costs like $15...

here's my new pedal board :)

I recommend looking at the Aguilar TLC or Earthquaker Devices The Warden. Just my two cents.
thanks, its hard to find earthquacker devices in india and for some reason the aguilar is Rs.20,000 (thats $341 ???? i got the wampler for $240 which is 50 or so above the US price, but thats normally the case with import duties and freight and limited supply and general "bad gear scene" in india) also i don't want to order a compressor online.. wanna try them first..
thanks to bongomania (and the store guy 'sunny' who let me try them before purchase) i gave the Ego comp a second chance and i really like this pedal now.. prob suits my style of playing more than the other pedals.. but i think its a bit more universal than that.. yesterday we checked it out on guitars (strat with suhr pickups going into rockitt retro into torpedo into api a2d into metric uln2.. :)) even the guitar player was amazed at how smooth the ego sounded.. almost like a good studio comp.. we a/b'd it with the metric dynamic strip (which is quite high end-y) and were impessed by how the wampler kept up... highly recommended
