Condoms, Please!

Except that when children are raised by a single parent their chances of being supported by the taxpayers is many times greater, as is their chances of engaging in criminal activities and ending up in prison.

In my lifetime, taxes have always been taken out of my paychecks to help fund these programs, so that's a non issue for me and like I said, it still doesn't effect the way I live my life. There are also many single moms/dads that receive the benefits of these programs that are receiving their child support too, as are many married couples.

Though you are correct about their chances of engaging in criminal activities being greater, the odds their criminal activity effecting me is still minimal, because you do have to take the entire populous of the area(s) into consideration, which reduce the chances of it happening to me, a family member, or close friend. I'm not saying it won't happen, but the odds are in my favor of it more than likely not happening.

Now, WHY would you quote just part of what I wrote and comment on that, when the rest of the sentence explains my point? sheesh

Because while I don't disagree that the rest of your sentence explains your point, the rest of your sentence doesn't do anything more to justify the assertion that there's "nothing wrong with having 8 kids"

Regardless of whether or not a parent (or parents) can provide a decent home and a healthy upbringing for their offspring, it is my firm opinion that there is something seriously wrong with wanting to crank out a brood that size...it suggests a callous disregard (and/or an ignorant selfishness) for the future of this planet, and for the quality of life of the other people who have to share this planet with those 8 kids. IMHO, of course.

Well then that's your opinion, and my opinion differs. High five! :p

Look at the Duggars. They're from my home town in Arkansas. They have... wait is it 58 or 59 kids now. No one throws a fit about them having that many kids, because they're beyond financially stable, and they're a white, christian family. Rules on what is morally right shouldn't change because of demographics.

If the guy would have had all 26 with his wife, like the duggars, it'd be one thing.

The more I think about this the more I'm convinced that Cromartie is actually winning life's lottery where it really counts. He's leaving behind his superior genes in greater quantities than just about every other person and from a biological point of view that's all that's important. We know the guy is ambitious, hard working, physically capable in the extreme and has an inherent ability to attract women - and these are all traits that nature tends to prefer to replicate.

You can't take it with you (money or property) and public memories of athletes don't mean much too long past your death. But it's a good bet that he's going to have a couple dozen grandchildren and several dozens of great-grandchildren and so on. Even if he goes broke paying for all his descendants and dies in the poorhouse, in the long run it just might be worth it - depending on whether or not one has any overriding religious or moral qualms about the whole situation - in addition to the social taint such behavior automatically brings with it from modern civilization.

If I had the means to do what he's doing, I might do the same thing. Maybe a lot of you participating in this thread would too, even if your first reaction is "Of course I wouldn't."

I'm not surprised at all, I just feel bad for all involved. The kids won't have real Dad.

i never met, or even saw, my biological father - bailed on my mom when i was an infant and never looked back - and i turned out all right. my mom found a good man who she wanted to be with and who wanted to be with both of us, when i was about 6 and he became my dad.

it's the mom's responsibility, in this case, since its obvious this kid could not care less about his own progeny, to find the best homelife possible for her children, and that includes a solid father figure.

What if those parents are exceptionally better parents than 98% of all other parents and just so happen to raise 8 of the most well balanced, intelligent kids you could ever imagine?

Does it still suggest a callous disregard (and/or an ignorant selfishness) for the future of this planet, and for the quality of life of the other people who have to share this planet with those 8 kids?

Yes, because until those parents "just so happen to raise 8 of the most well balanced, intelligent kids you could ever imagine" we don't really know how "exceptionally better" they are at parenting. We only know how good they are at breeding, based on the quantity of progeny, but that's not the issue. Hindsight is 20/20 (or whatever the aphorism is)...until you can accurately predict who will be a good parent, it's all still conjecture, a gamble. Unfortunately, imho you're gambling with other people's quality of life when you pump out that many offspring.
