Back in the mid '80s I was working in the parts department at a Toyota dealership in Houston. One of the car salesmen, seeing my long hair and earring, asked me if I was in a band, I said "yeah".
He says "My son's in a band too! They're really good! I'll have to bring you one of their tapes sometime!"... and I'm thinking "oh great, he's gonna bring me some crappy cassette of his 13 year old making some godawful racket in their garage, and I'm gonna have to act like it's good stuff".
I see the guy here and there over the next few months, and he keeps saying "I gotta remember to bring you one of my son's tapes!". Yeah, whatever.
So he walks up to the parts counter one day and lo and behold, says he has a brand new cassette from his son and a bunch of photos.
He sets the cassette on the counter and starts showing me the photos. The cassette is "Master of Puppets".
And it hits me that the salesman's name is Dennis Hammett. The pictures were a bunch of personal shots from Kirk of the band goofing off in Japan during their '86 tour.
This connection got me nothing
