Double Bass Consensus of some top cabs for uprights?

It's a little power hungry, being rated at 8ohms, but the EA NL210 is quite impressive. It can also be carried, legitimately, with one hand. Pretty transparent, too.

Bob has a pair of them, uses them mostly for electric bass guitar with his blues band (his upright gigs don't usually require so much volume, so he uses a smaller rig) but they're wicked good.

It'll do it, but it really helps your case to have a bit more wattage than the Micro can provide. Since it's an 8ohm cabinet, it gets only about 385w from the Micro/Doubler... It's enough to make quite good sound at low to mid-levels, but the cabinet really "blooms" when it's well fed. Hence, Bob uses a Genz-Benz Streamliner 900 with his.

It seems, because of their ability to produce low frequency, the EA cabinets need a little more power to drive them. I certainly found that to be true of the VL 108', VL 110, and VL 208. I'd be sure to get an amplifier that produces around 500 watts at 8 ohms, which is precisely what the 900 has. Since Genz Benz is no longer in business, you could either buy one used, or go with something from another manufacture, if you can swing it the Puma 900, would definitely be in the running.

No love for the EA 210? I've been thinking about getting one but after all these replies, not one mention. Anyone out there loving their EA 210?

As and endorser for EA I found that on loud gigs I would bottom out the NL210. But I play some very--loud--upright--gigs. That may be solvable with a HPF which I didn't try. Too bad EA put an all-but-useless HPF in the Doubler. I didn't think they needed to be told that a 6db/octave HPF is next to useless. It needs to be 24db/octave---but they wouldn't change it. At least it's good that Fdeck came out with a 24db/octave one (I suggested it).

To me the sleeper in the EA line is the CXL12. Can be had used for pretty cheap. Goes wicked loud and has some nasty mids. But if you EQ out the gank it's a great sounding cab.

Since my cabs were mentioned--I much prefer the MAS 25 to the Crazy 8 (WHICH WAS INITIALLY MY DESIGN---check the thread). Same dynamic limitations but much closer to an acoustic sound.
