considering Genz-Benz shuttle...

I'm considering going small with a Genz-Benz shuttle or Markbass II or something similar. I play all types of music so I want the amp to be versatile, can either of these amps pull off a deep bass tone then switch to a modern sound if I want?

The GB and MB can be 2 entirely different amps.
Do you have any places around you that you could go try one or both of the?
There are dozens of posts descibing the different sounds.

I've owned both and they are both excellent amps. However, the LMII is definitely better at getting super big lows. Bass eq is set at 40hz and the shuttle's is 80hz. The shuttle has an inherently weaker low end, but does sound nice and tight. I am actually GASing for another!

The GB bass control is a shelving control.

Besides, the the L.F. BOOST button adds gain from 38-67 Hz, so that's covered as well.

In my auditions of the MB and GB heads I found the GB heads handle the low end with more elegance and sophistication than the MB offerings.

I had both, and kept the LM2. Nothing wrong with the Shuttle, I just prefered the Markbass tone.

I use the Shuttle 6.0 with a GB NEOX 112T and the Shuttle 112T cab. Bass control is set flat on the amp, bass boost pushbutton is in, and it has more than enough low end. Adding the NEOX cab made abiog difference. I haven't tried Markbass, but I think the cab is more important than the head.

at the moment i have an epifani ps112 but was considering a accugroove whappo jr or schroeder 21012L still undecided on the cab but am leaning towards the whappo jr.

Dude, I would just get another ps112. It would match perfectly with the one you have in terms of sonic performance. Plus, those cabs sound quite nice.

I love my Shuttle 6.0. Our definitions of "modern" may differ, but in my case I wouldn't say it's extremely versatile. Speaking to current R&B, rock, smooth jazz, etc. - using my MTD & Sadowsky basses - I tend to go with my Epifani gear. Not that you couldn't find the tone through this amp, but in my case I spent very little time looking for it since it didn't seem to be there by default. I mostly use my Shuttle on jazz dates and small-room casuals (jazz, older-school R&B, blues, disco, etc.).

In my arsenal, I find that the Shuttle sounds like a million bucks when paired with the 12" combo cab. It doesn't do a lot for me with my Epi cabs, but I have heard the ShuttleMAX 12.0 through an Epi 410, and it sounded GREAT. I also like the Shuttle 6.0 through one (or two) Aguilar GS112 cabs. Hopefully that helps a bit, but as always...I'm hoping you can get your hands and ears on both amps for an extensive test drive before you commit.

LMII or Shuttle? Hard question, and people have said a lot around here about the comparison. Both are well-respected on TB, which is why I tried both. I preferred the Shuttle.

Also: the Shuttle is silly small, and considerably smaller than the LMII in ratio comparison. You can fit it in the front pocket of a gig bag, which is insane.

Now I'm playing the opposite -- an Aguilar DB 750 -- so the small footprint wasn't reason enough for me to dig either of those amps over my big one.

depends on your needs... you will pay for the 'a lot more adjustability'
but it is a much more versatile amp. I love them both!!

That's easy, IMO. ShuttleMAX. If you're not solely price-shopping, and if you're not in love with either pre-amp, get the best of both worlds. I'm still pondering the purchase of a MAX 12.0 - although for me it wouldn't be a replacement for my 6.0 combo. Different amps for different needs in my case...although if there was a MAX-12T combo when I originally bought, that would've been an awesome thing.

I have a Shuttle 6 and love it.

Very light and small.

Huge tone and certainly enough volume for most applications.

Lots of useful features. Not a big EQ section, but what's there works very effectively. The DI, mute switch, effects loop, tuner out, etc. are all nice things to have.

Excellent build quality.

I can't imagine a better amp.

If you want total control over two seperate sounds with footswitchable channels,bass boost,mid scoop, and high end snap then the Shuttle Max is it. Plus they sound fantastic.

If you want a one trick pony then the LMIII is the ticket all be it a darn good trick. These sound fantastic as well.

It's hard to loose with either.

the cabinets driven will have a big effect on the tone of each head. I find either of the shuttle series to be very versital power tools to get any sound needed.
