Conspiracy to Commit Electronics Megathread

That is a really nice checker plate graphics, I don't know if I want a black band around the knobs and vents or not, sort of a racoon band just big enough so it covers the slots and knob area.
It would sort of look like a control panel on the checker plate like the original one has, chrome dome knobs and you are there.
I'm sure I will love it whatever you come up with.

Nathan, I think I'm getting a blister from pressing refresh on the Wrecking Ball PCB page.
I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the Out Of Stock sign, I thought I had missed them.
Worst of all, I might have to head to bed soon as it's after 4 in the morning downunder.
I'll just press the "refresh" button a few more times.....

EDIT: I got some daughter PCB's in the shopping cart already, just waiting to add the WB.

Wrecking Ball is fully verified and I have a couple dozen boards on hand, just need to get the build doc together. It's on the list of things to do in the next few days.

My day job has a "shutdown" from December 25 through January 1, so I have a substantial to-do list, and cleaning up Conspiracy to Commit's website and adding some more things is pretty high on the list. I need to update the pictures of some of the boards as they still have the older pictures of the black boards with the sushi logo. I think a few build docs may reference sushi box as well, I'd like to get that cleared out so Conspiracy to Commit can stand more as an independent entity.

Another thing I've been tossing around that I'm planning to evaluate more over the next week or so is offering full parts kits for projects. I recognize that there are people out there with the soldering ability to put these together that either don't have experience with component sourcing or don't like doing it and would prefer to buy a full kit of all the parts to put a pedal together. I haven't completely sorted what this would look like, but it's been something I've been thinking about.

Well I think the girls (young and old) will have to have priority from now until the 26th at least, I'm just an impatient old bugger who likes to collect PCB's faster then I can build them.

More true than you know, the 24th is also my middle daughter's birthday. As soon as I finish lunch I'm off to grab a cake. I don't enjoy going shopping this close to the holidays, but daddy has a job to do.

Kids have to sleep eventually though, that's when I get things done.

I know a few people with their birthday on the 24th December, I remember from Sweden when I was an anklebiter we always celebrated Xmas on Christmas eve the 24th, in Australia its on Christmas day 25th.
I hope the US celebrates Xmas on the 25th for your daughters sake, I always hated seeing all the Xmas stuff in the shops before my birthday on the 30th of November.

Whenever people asked me why they celebrate Xmas on the 24th in Sweden when I grew up I would tell them that Santa started on the 24th in Scandinavia and it took him a day to reach Australia on the 25th. (I left Sweden when I was 12 in mid 1973)
I still celebrate Xmas with Swedish type of foods after all these years, but none of that pickled herring thanks.

I'm still exploring the sound, but I'm very happy with the tone of the balanced out going through a class-D amp & 18" cab.

I took advice from this list and upgraded C1, C7, C10, C11, and C12 with audio grade film capacitors. My only real issue on the build is that the Solen C12 is enormous! I had to do some serious re-routing to get it to fit in the box with everything else.

Posting some pics. I hope they scale properly.

I have been planning to open up 2 new Threads on the Sushi Box FX page over on PedalPCB forums, one to describe modifications done to C2CE pedals and one for mods we would like to see on future revisions on Nathans PCB's.

Mods Done: any mods anyone has done that they want to share, when I am ready I will post my dual HPF mod on my Nobelium and also the Bright mod on my Bassdude. I have also worked out a list of changes to the Ambassador and the Black Eye to make them more Bass friendly that I intend to do.
If anyone can give detailed explanations why the changes was done then it would be nice reading, especially if something like a graph or schematic was provided. A new BOM list for Bass mods as an example.

PCB Mods: (Please help find a better name) Any mod you would like to see on future versions of the C2CE PCB's, this could be anything as simple as the dual HPF I did on my Nobelium (ON-OFF-ON switch and one more box capacitor) to anything else like adding switches for any Bright caps and adding a deep switch to tone stacks. Any mods that have been done and would be an easy alteration to the PCB's that would benefit others.

Those names were just pulled out of my head just now and if anyone can think of a better name or want to start the Threads before I am ready then please do so, Nathan told me he would be happy to see what people might come up with, after all that is the spirit of the DIY crowds on any guitar forum.

I finished my second Ambassador pedal tonight, the first one was stock with the components listed in the BOM, the second one I altered the value of 6 capacitors and I left the 2 bright caps out so it is better for bass.
I will post the mods and pics over on the peddalpcb sushi forum in the next week or so if it sounds ok, I have decided to make a thread called "The MOD Squad" for any mods anyone has done to be posted to.

Something I would love to see on future PCB's, at least the pre-amps is somewhere we can tap into to feed a small amp for headphones or speaker.
I mean just a Ground and Signal solder pad that can feed a tiny amp chip so we can get some head phone practice in, if it can drive a speaker as well that would be great.
I have some LM386 and LM380 IC's somewhere, I might do a quick veroboard amp that mounts with a 9mm pot into the box somewhere and see how it goes one day.
I think mounting the PCB with a volume pot would be easiest I think, I might make a tiny board that can fit between the power plug and out jack.
You can buy some nice class D amps that are super small that can deliver 30 watts or so, just mount them with some thick double sided tape somewhere.
If there was a tiny class D amp Daughter-Board I would be buying some for sure.
I'm just thinking out loud so just ignore me.

I will as soon as I get around to it, I have started to get some screen grabs from where I have been checking the bass response of certain sections of the schematics, the graphs are not that good but it has helped me locate what part I wanted to change.
I will try my Ambassador soon which I BASStardised a bit to make it better for Bass Guitar, I might do some tube rolling with it first though.
I have another pedal I have to fault find first because it did not work right when I made it, I might have stuffed something up when I designed the PCB with that one. (No tubes in that one but it can be used with bass and acoustic from my understanding)

I was originally planning to open a new website for Unagi Magnetics, but I figured it's a small number of products and pretty much the same audience as C2C, so it makes sense to just keep everything in one place.

Unagi E4305 D.I. transformers are now available without a PCB purchase, and I've also started making the M1380 inductor available. M1380 is a drop-in replacement for the custom inductor Ampeg uses for the midrange control in things like the SVT. It was specifically to replace the one in the SVT-CL, so it's a different form factor than the one in the vintage SVT, but it has the same electrical characteristics so it's a good fit for scratch builds and experiments. I'm not expecting to sell a lot of them as they're a niche product even for this niche of a market, but I looked for years only to find $100+ options out there, so I figure there may be a handful of people like me looking for one.

I had a quick look at this and I think you would have to change the 1uF caps to 47uF (C9,10,11), Change C4 to 68nF 630V (might get away with 47nF), and lastly leave out the bright caps C6 and C7.
If I did it I would put a 3PDT switch in for the 47uF caps and call it deep, and also a switch to remove C6 and C7 and call it bright.
I would leave C4 as 68nF all the time.
I haven't looked at the tone stack yet.
This might sound OK with bass with lower gain tubes, someone just have to be brave enough to do it.

So I've been building a few extra Nobeliums to raise funds for more pedals/building projects… I thought I'd mention that to import the fancier bits (Vishay Dale/WIMA/Kemet) here to Oz it costs very close to an extra AU$100!
I can't hear the difference as long as the tubes are clean.

Edit… well to be honest I build them for fun… it's kinda mindful relaxation for me…
