:eyebrow:You sound like a guitard through and through to me so my advice is to forget the idea of playing such a boring and utterly useless instrument as bass obviously is and stick to being a guitard.....oops I meant guitarist. Hope that helps.

Bass is a trap. You're better off getting a nice flashy guitar and the biggest stack you can find, and let the girls swamp you. The video you watched in 6th grade health class will let you know what to do from there.

I've slept with my bass laying next to me on multiple occasions. When I'm in class I frequently day dream about playing. I even joined an online community to learn more about the instrument. I'm a very average player but I do have a passion for the instrument. If I didn't have this passion then I would also find practice and playing to be boring.
My suggestion: if you don't have passion for the bass, then don't try it. Its not for everybody.

I started classical guitar in 5th grade. Loved it. I got pretty damn good, picked up electric, and yet longed for the bassy overtones. So I played acoustic for a while. Get an acoustic guitar. It seems like you need a happy medium. And you clearly don't belong here. Don't waste the money, and don't think that bass'll get you gigs. You need to love the bass to play it. Bass isn't an instrument you play half heartedly.

I can't really reply to any of this because all my opinion will be teared to shreds :P

+1 for TB community..

I'm not saying it bores ME, just that it isn't as exciting an instrument as, say a guitar.

Okay it's clear that asking which instrument is better on a bass guitar site is a bit bias..

I'll think of the decision myself and get back to you guys.

The last problem that I can think of is that cheap bass selection in Toronto isn't as good as guitar, and that's effecting my decision..

If one needs 'emotional' support at this stage, and you arent drawn by pure curiosity and desire, then move on. It sounds like you're a guitarist through and through, seeking approval at all times. Low enders stand on our own two feet, and try not to step on our drummer's.

Borrow a bass. See if it fits. If you can't keep accurate time, then its assured, you're a guitarist.

GC in Buffalo has many inexpensive basses.

Matter of opinion not fact. If you think this then play guitar. I have played guitar since the age of 4 and I am now primarily a bass player. One isn't better than the other, it's what you feel on the inside and wish to use to create with. Clearly on the inside you feel snappy biased judgement, so go with that and play guitar.

Buy a Chevy

"Just that Pepsi isn't as good tasting as, say Coke"
Then drink coke.

If the answer is clear in those examples, then why is your view on Bass vs Guitar any different. If you need to be convinced to play bass, then it isn't right for you.

ahhh.. this is frustrating. I'm not saying I necessarily want to stick with guitar. I don't LOVE acoustic and I always loved bass. I want to buy a better (my acoustic is $100 gig pack from Costco) guitar. It's either going to be a bass or an electric. Honestly, I don't think curiousity is at all the motivation, I genuinely like bass. CHILL TB :P

Now I really don't want to spend all night sitting here and defending myself, so I'm just gonna say that i'm genuinely interested in bass, and I really think it could be fun and rewarding.

Honestly, you came on here and insulted bass players on a bass players forum. If you play guitar, I doubt any of our feelings will be hurt. The choice is yours to make. Go to a music store and play around with bass and play around with guitar and make the choice yourself.

To approach things like there is a "better" instrument tells me you are ignorant to the music world. Also, I have never heard someone who is "genuinely interested in bass" refer to the instrument as "less interesting that guitar"
