Cool or what?

I recently acquired this in a trade and just had to show it off. If I'm in the wrong forum, let me know where it belongs (Gretsch club?). It is not currently for sale, just eye candy for the community.

It's rare upon rare. It's a medium scale (32") Gretsch Electromatic that was part of a special 2010 run by Guitar Center. Custom pin strips were added (some type of high-quality decal) to match double bass player Jimbo Wallace's custom design and sold at the 2010 Chicago Rock and Hot Rod Show. One of just three of these custom jobs.
Korean made but seems every bit as good as the higher-priced Gretsch Broadcaster I sold on TB earlier this year. Has the better TV Jones pups, well built with that woody, hollow-body sound.

I think it's so tough looking I can hardly stand it!

That thing is all kinds of beautiful. I'm a big Gretsch guy (for guitars anyway...somehow have never owned a Gretsch bass) and I love rockabilly/hot rod culture stuff.

In other words, if I'm ever in Connecticut again and we cross paths, I'm gonna brain you with a mallet AND STEAL THIS FROM YOU!!!!!

Wow, this is a revelation. Thanks for the info and link to thread. I have not played it that much so haven't been bothered by the knob position but I will give it attention as I play it more. I'll be spending some time with the link too to get a better sense of what the situation is.

I wouldn't be too alarmed. The knobs are mounted further forward, which (I think) is more like the positioning of the guitar version's knobs. Now that I have seen two of them and know that yours is a first-run of this GC model, I wonder if this might be "normal." This positioning of the knobs puts a knob awfully close to the bridge, and the position definitely changed in later production runs. That doesn't rule out that this could be the normal position for the first run of this model.

THanks for pep talk. That's reassuring and makes sense. If not for the custom work, it might be less desirable to some, but it's just so cool looking I'm sure I can live with it.
