The Beatles at the Star Club in Hamburg 1962.
How about those Hamburg haircuts on the guys standing in front of the band. Slick!
Pompadours and D.A.s (Ducks Ass). THE cool look in the '50s and early '60s.
I remember looking through the HS yearbooks and seeing a lot of flat tops during that time in CA.
As a kid in the '50s and early teen in the '60s, I also wore a Butch and a Flat Top. But the guys who were called "hoods" (ie., hoodlums, whether they were or not) wore the D.A.s and pompadours. Think of the movie "Grease".
In '64 I went to the "Beatles look". Got kicked out of junior high and high school on many occasions to go get a haircut (even though it really wasn't very long.) Schools were pretty strict back then...
In the years 1972-1974 dress code violations, hair violations and smoking on school grounds got me expelled from two Catholic High Schools.
I did it on purpose to eventually not have to attend Catholic school anymore. Really could not tolerate petty rules designed to produce sheep-like compliance.
My last two years of high school were at public school.
