Aside from adjusting for inflation(which actually was about to become rampant, plus the gas shortage of the period), at that point in time those were just old guitars. No concept of "vintage" yet, however right around then, players(myself included)were starting to grumble to themselves about how crappy the newer stuff from Fender and Gibson had become, setting the stage for that awareness/pursuit/trend. Not to mention that some of the newer Japanese instruments, which had been previously been the butt of jokes, were all of a sudden not so bad for the money, especially the knock-off designs. This sort of thing has been going on for a long time.
