an epic 1972 bill of Captain Beyond, Gentle Giant, and Black Sabbath @ the Hollywood Bowl. poor Gentle Giant came on after a blistering set by Captain Beyond with light fare which got them rude treatment thx to rabid hard rockers who tossed a few firecrackers. a missed opportunity for all, that prog slot would have been perfect for King Crimson, but it was time for the headliners. they were touring to support their Vol. 4 LP, when the Sabs launched into the rarely played Under The Sun, that thunderous opening was SO heavy I passed out, twice! that must be what Hard Rock Heaven is like. but oddly they didn't encore with Paranoid, so something strange was going on, in fact Tony nearly got stabbed onstage by some loon. he said ''it was the worst possible night of the worst possible tour''. Ozzy supposedly threw up as well, but that wasn't unusual, regardless, they still rocked the joint. too bad bootleggers didn't tape Captain Beyond as well, they were headliner material.

I've seen Gentle Giant in concert twice and they were fantastic.
Can't understand how concert promoters pair bands together so poorly so often.
