Ron Wood playing bass. Probably from the Jeff Beck days:

Definitely, 1968 U.S. tour. He had used a Jazz Bass on Truth, but picked up on the newly issued Telecaster Bass(technically, Fender’s first reissue, of the ‘51 P)in time for this and the sessions for Beck-Ola.
For just a couple of gigs, the newly emerged Plush* amplifier company provided their backline, and milked the publicity for all it was worth…

*The tuck’n’roll covering imitated Kustom, but they were actually tube amps, specifically Fender Showman knock-offs, and not bad if you got one that was built on a good day. The company morphed into Earth before dissapearing in the early 70’s.

Over a few days this week, we caught up our old friends, bassist/vocalist Steve Kilbey and his band, The Church, from Australia…

Ah, the teardown/loadout glamour of rock’n’roll…

This was in a 100 year old theater in L.A., Macca had just played there. The aftershow hang was graced by a visit from fellow Aussie Rick Springfield. Kinda humorous, who knew?

The next gig was north of San Diego, by the beach…

Steve is now the sole original member, but it’s always been his band anyway.

I'm assuming they played "Under the Milky Way"?
Every time til the end of time. But what was special about their two sets each night was the deep cuts that hadn’t been played live for ages. There was stuff I’d never heard, going back 40 years to the first time I saw them, pre-Starfish, opening for Echo and the Bunnymen. My knowing them stemmed from the coincidence of answering a blind bass player wanted ad in conjunction with a side project Steve was initially involved with, and I met my wife through all that.
