Annie...circa 1977. Same year I first saw Heart. Back then, always dug her over Nancy.
They still put on a fantastic show and I swear there's still no need for Ann to use a mic.
I can do without most of their 80s hits that the record company made them do, but I'm still a big Heart fan going back to when Dreamboat Annie first came out.

Truly, she was one of the most remarkable vocalists I'd ever heard. I really enjoyed Heart early on through the 70s. Yeah, I didn't dig the 80s material as much. The one song that really showcased Annie, was their rendition of "Tell It Like It Is". She's just amazing on it. Here's that and another YouTube showing her range.

50 years ago today, snit happened and one of these guys (Young) wrote a song about it that got them back together again. Ohio.
After the angst-ridden thread concerning bassist Eva Gardner, here's a band that her father, Kim Gardner, played bass in for a while, The Creation. One of the great lost British bands of the mid-60's, they were the epitome of 'freakbeat', a latter day category denoting the tipping point(in the UK)between R&B influenced Mod pop and the onset of Psychedelia(before it got all hippy dippy), generally '65-'67. Guided by producer Shel Talmy(who did the early records by The Kinks, The Who, David Bowie, and The Easybeats), they had a sound somewhat similar to pre-Tommy Who; similar, but
no mere imitation. Urban myth has it that their guitarist, Eddie Phillips...
...was considered as a possible second guitarist for Townshend and co., but that has never been substantiated. What is certain is that Phillips used a violin bow on guitar way before Jimmy Page. Never getting a break in their home country, they were huge in Germany. But personnel changes(a front man with LSD—lead singer's disease), led to upheaval. That singer, Kenny Pickett, was forced out, bassist Bob Garner moved to the front(he had replaced John Dalton, who went on to The Kinks), the bass role taken over by Gardner(formerly of mod band The Birds). Then a frustrated Phillips left; the guitar slot filled by Gardners' Birds buddy, Ronnie Wood(yes, that Ronnie Wood)...
...but by then the band's fortunes had waned, not having widespread substantial hits. At the end of Wood's tenure, he was already involved in Jeff Beck's new band. Largely forgotten about, an unlikely disco cover of one of their bigger tunes("Painter Man") brought them some revived attention, Pickett and Phillips reconciled and became songwriters(Rockpile covered their "Teacher Teacher"), while being name checked by The Sex Pistols and The Jam's Paul Weller. Scotsman Alan McGee named his band, Biff Bang Pow, after one of their songs, and his record label after the band(Creation—home of Oasis, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, etc). Ride(and the Godfathers earlier)covered their epic "How Does It Feel". There was a brief reunion of the original line-up in the 90's, then their "Making Time" was used in the Rushmore movie soundtrack.
