Don’t fire this drummer….
Monday night we attended a Grammy-related promotional event for an album, Divine Tides, by an Indian musician/activist named Ricky Kej, who had partnered with Police drummer Stewart Copeland(a number of other musicians from all over the globe contributed as well). The two of them, as well as the producer, took turns speaking about the making of it, then they returned to the crowd for the schmooze, while audio and video of the material played. Musically, it splits the difference between world fusion and new age, spacy yet uplifting at the same time. Copeland plays all manner of exotic percussion on it, plus his usual kit skills. In the second pic, you can see him in the visuals, projected on the ceiling of this massive dome(an arts space in downtown LA)where the meet and greet took place.
