I've got his long teardrop t-shell pick as a souvenir from long ago, at one point I think Justin even wanted to give me his Strat! odd things tend to happen when sitting front row center at rock concerts.

local legend is they got 5 encores one nite, this shot is from that run.If that was 1971 then the Stones' opening act in Hawaii (at Mick Jagger's request) was a band who had just released their first album, a trio named ZZ Top.

"We met The Stones in 1972. Just shortly after the first record [1971's 'ZZ Top's First Album'] came out, then the invitation came in to perform three shows in Honolulu. "Everybody on the planet wanted to land three shows with The Rolling Stones in Hawaii, and somehow it was ZZ Top. We were so glad. "We flew over, we took the stage - early on, we had our little cowboy hats and our cowboy boots - took the stage, the lights came up... everybody gasped. They said, 'Oh my god, they're a country band!' [Laughs] "So, I turn around to Frank [Beard, drums] and I said, 'We need to hit it, fellows.' So, we did; we hit it off, and that was our first introduction to The Stones. We've been friends ever since." BG

These images are all from Tejas, which will always be special to me, as one of the first records I ever owned. Released in '76, it was likely a birthday gift from a friend when I turned 11. The album seems to be forgotten by the band and fans alike, but I think it's great. The songs and these images are etched in my mind. I still have the LP, and I think I'll play it tonight in fact.

BIG fan of Climax. I have all of their albums. FM Live is a terrific live album. I wore out a couple of LPs before it was released as a CD. Here's a 20 minute set from the German TV show Rockpalast in '76.
