Yeah, but. I went to YouTube and listened to a couple their songs from the album. Now I know why I've never heard of them before.

I had a couple of their albums way back then. They were an archetypal sort of glammy, excessive 70s rock band. They fit the times which, like you hinted, is probably why they're not known now. Although they are still out there playing, so good for them.

If you never listened to Angel in the '70s, then they probably won't connect with them. This is the Album that I listened to and it was great to my 12 year old self:

They were on Casablanca, discovered by Gene Simmons, and posed as some sort of anti-Kiss. Frank Zappa threw some shade on their guitarist, Punky Meadows…

This just goes to show how Fender didn’t get it right…they may have come up with the classic instrument, but amp-wise the Bassman was only 50 watts with two 12’s, whereas the guitarists got the bigger Showman, 85 watts and two 15’s. But it looks like both six stringers will have to use the same amp.
Ironically, many bass players in the day would move to the Showman, and eventually guitarists found the Bassman to be a perfect guitar amp.

I enlisted in 1970, and spent the better part of 1972-1974 in Army and V.A. hospitals. Finally got to university in the fall of '74, and went straight to prog. Never got into bands like Angel. The radio station in Madison that I listened to was an underground station and never played that kind of music. That's why I never heard of them.
'Angel' was out of character for my older brother's LP collection, but that's where I "discovered" them. I recall them being listenable enough that I located a couple copies for myself, and I actually still have these:
I guess I'll have to re-acquaint now. These are probably still in excellent playing condition.

There was some music from that time that I regret not giving enough thought to. One example was David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust tour. I blew off that concert and wound up spending decades kicking myself in the butt for being a prog elitist. He may be a technically superior guitarist, but on stage, at least for the Return To Forever 30th Anniversary tour show I attended, he had the charisma of a 2x4.
Stanley Clarke, on the other hand, is charisma personified.
