I don't play with any effects pedals so I'm wondering. Will a compressor pedal help with reducing sustain issues. Not having any issues, but would like to reduce some sustain problems sometimes. I guess flatten out some overtones. Or am I on the wrong path...

Probably on the wrong path as a compressor adds sustain. I’d look at physical devices such as foam you put under the strings at the bridge to dampen sustain.

"Reducing sustain issues" meaning what? Too much sustain, not enough, sustaining only some notes/tones? "Flatten out some overtones" meaning what? Like turning down the highs, or reducing string/pick noise, or?

The more specific you are about what you actually want to happen, the better the chances we can help.

Compression can (when used correctly) make you sound more like a studio recording, but it depends on the recording! Maybe post a link to what you want to sound like, and then tell us what's missing in your actual sound.
