on a vintage ampeg cab, they use one piece to go all the way around it and they meet on the left bottom side, about 1.5" from the edge. then the back is one piece. i did the sides first and wrapped it to about 2" on the back. then i cut a piece as big the entire back and glue it on. then i take a razor blade with a t-square and cut thru both pieces with one cut. you have to slightly lift the edge of the back piece to remove the extra tolex underneath, then push the back piece flush to the side piece. if you're using 3M super 77, you have to work pretty fast as it bonds almost instantly.

This is the area that concerns me the most (that, and I'm looking at a Sadowsky cab :D). Do you have any issues with the back catching, or dragging when loading/unloading it? Seems like that joint would pull.

I've got to remember to look at my Ampeg fridge when I get home. I always thought that cabs were one piece of material for some reason :rollno:

This is all making more sense to me now...still not sure how I want to go about doing the 2x10 - I have 3 yards of tolex - so I should have more than enough - you think it's possible to start with the back and wrap everything around to the front and trim it there so there are NO seams? All corners would be under corner pieces, so I suppose I could make slits to relieve the tension of the tolex under there...

yeah, I kinda figured that - I'll probably just wrap the sides around the back first, and then take another piece over the top and around the back. there will be two seams on each top edge, but those should stay down with some 3M adhesive, right?

OK, it's starting to make sence now. So, have you gone for that flush cut, and been short on one side? Be honest now. Rookie mistake maybe :)?

Sorry for the delayed pictures guys - I forgot about this thread. Thanks for your help everyone, I went ahead and finished this project all by myself (and the help of my lovely girlfriend) ;)

I've gigged with it twice now, and it's definitely a conversation piece! I've been getting a lot of love - one dude even asked if it was a custom order from SWR :bassist:
