Country music Yes or No?

I like that western swing intersection between swing jazz, country, and early rockabilly. Billy Jack Wills is my absolute favorite.

I cant say that I run out to buy the latest CD or search for classics, but I will say that some of it is VERY fun to play.

Hey, whatever people want to play and/or listen to is cool - as long as I don't have to play it or listen to it. Country is one form that I just can't listen to. So it's no surprise that I have zero feel for actually playing it.

In response to the OP's original question, I'd rather not listen to today's country. Country today sounds like Matchbox 20 (or some other lame band of similar ilk) with a southern accent.

In the Country genre, I especially enjoy groups like Allison Krauss and Union Station. Some Country is pretty much Pop but there are some real gems of both old and new Country out there. It's definitely worth a little exploring.

I grew up with both American and Irish country music (I remember crying as a kid when I heard a song by Don Williams about his dog getting killed). My parents loved it. And all that old stuff is great - country music as it should be.

But, to my ears, most modern country music is hideously over-produced dross - pop-rock with a ten-gallon hat, a Southern accent and a bit of added pedal steel and fiddle. So I guess you could say I'm no longer much of a fan.

Johnny Cash still gets the occasional play though.
