Cover Band Rant.

dude, you have to talk to the guy in person to get the gig. that's the only requirement. he's always at the bar. you can walk in there and tell it's not the place for the beatles. and yes, most of the bikers that show up are under 50, and they are the minority. it's mostly 20-30 somethings.

Cool. The bar owner is cool for giving people a place to play. But he is doing himself and his patrons a disservice by hiring the wrong bands for his bar.

IMHO and all that.

Dude, you must be some awsome(player, musician, entertainer)and with an attitude like what w'ere experiencing you're sure gonna go a long way in the music biz.I'm definately keeping out of the way.
Woffle:eek:

what? is it wrong to think that the band has the responsibilty of playing the right songs to fit the venue? should i bow down and worship you for playing what you want to play, and not caring about what the audience is in to?

seems to me, the people who are egotistical enough to think that they can and should be paid top dollar for playing songs the audience doesn't want to hear are the ones with the bad attitude, and it also happens they're the ones who don't make it in the music biz.

it's a small town, we all know the guy personally. he worked at the local factory for years, went to the high school there, knows almost everyone who walks in the door by name, and has a $4 pitcher of beer.

in a city, yeah, this would be suicide. there's only 2 bars in this town, and the other one is a redneck only kind of place. he's not going to lose buisiness by having a bad band every once in a while. besides, on the weekends where no other band is booked, his band plays, and the place is always packed.

Wow,too weird.

I was going to post that my perspective may be because I live in a large city with tons of venues to play.I would never dream of booking our blues band in one of the country venues here.

Small town or city, yeah, gotta play where you can.

Then why wouldn't he have just booked his own band so it was "packed" rather than knowingly booking a band that his patrons wouldn't like? Again, 100% his fault. Complain to him rather than giving "Paul" a "warning." Regardless of his attitude, I think you sunk lower by acting like that.

as i've stated, his policy is not to turn anyone away. i will not fault him for that. he also pays bands quite fairly.

look, you don't know how the conversation played out. yeah, i was a jerk to him, but he was a jerk to me first. why should i lay down and worship this guy for being an ignorant jerk?

Looks like he's making his own band look good.
Bands lookout, this as a venue SUCKS.
Do'nt seem to matter what kinda music, wrong face wrong place. Beware.
Woffle

his band IS good. anymore, they only play at his bar. if you ask his band to learn a song, they learn it before their next gig. if you want to hear a song that they already know, you can walk up to the stage between songs and ask them. if you want to sing, just hop on stage and do it, they don't care, the singer's more than willing to go grab a beer. they don't take themselves seriously, and have fun. the fun they have moves into the audience and lights the place up.

why does the venue suck? because anyone can play there and get paid? because they have a sound guy who is a musician and knows how to be a good sound guy? because everybody in the place knows everybody else, and most of them will at least give your band a chance? it's a great place to play, and a great place to hang out, even if you do get a crappy band ever once in a while.

I can't get passed the purple velvet jumpsuits. Perhaps you should be focussing on the bands management. Who thought it was okay to play Beatles songs in a Mettallica friendly bar while wearing jumpsuits? Was their spandex and 80's big hair wigs in the wash?

Two tickets to Yanni please

the "Paul" of the band doesn't even sing?! not much of a tribute band eh?!

Secondly... These liverpool wannabe's ?! Have they even been to liverpool? I assure you, You're either gonna get stabbed, spat on or have your wallet robbed. If not all 3!

well, i'm not a beatles fan, so i don't know who sings what. overall, like i said, they didn't play badly, just didn't book the right bar.

around here, bands manage themselves. they might have had a manager, i didn't ask, but it's not likely. this is small town middle of missouri. and they weren't jumpsuits, more like 60's style pimpsuits, no jackets either. just purple pants, vests, ties, those strap things around their upper arms, and white puffy shirts.
