Cover Band Rant.

The only real sin you may have committed is if you cancelled booked gigs because of the drummer.

No, our (ex)drummer took the liberty of doing that for us. Funny thing is, the gig was a charity we were playing for free -- for his wife! He told us the tickets were $25 each; we ask for free ones for our spouses/partners, and he was insulted -- and quit.

The amount of gigs a cover band gets is inversely proportional to the amount of time the band rehearses.

A baptism by fire can be a good thing. :D I've always thought that a band doesn't get better by rehearsing, it gets better by gigging. And how are you going to gig if you're rehearsing all the time? It doesn't help thogh when one of the members is so too much of a copy-perfectionist. Despite the set-back, we're better off without him and with our new guy, who isn't so anal about note-perfect accuracy.

...play in front of a british flag? the talking between songs by the guy who wasn't even singing, the costumes, the crazy number of guitars they brought (something i forgot to mention, they had at least 12 guitars with them) it was just one of those things that makes a man stare in disbelief.
HA! Now THAT actually sound so bizzare that I'd want to see it. :eyebrow:
Look, everybody slows down and stares at a car wreck...I'd definitely want to see *that* gig. :D
12 guitars for some Beatles tunes?!

I don't think George Harrison and John Lennon combined ever even owned 12 guitars!

Dude, myself and I'm pretty well convinced the rest of us at TB
would just love to hear your band:ninja:Get a couple of takes together and show us what your into.(YOU TUBE,MY SPACE,BANDS HOME PAGE) We're all waiting:rolleyes:
If its as good as your saying theres gonna be a few surprised faces. You know what they say,put your money where your mouth is.:hmm:

well, it's gonna be a while before my current band has it's demo ready. our singer got the boot today, and we have an audition for another one this weekend. once we find our new singer and get a few songs together, rest assured, i'll post some demo's up here jusf for you.;)

until then, feel free to bash the last band i was in. studio live straight from the singer's basement, i give you "out of the blue" performing "these are the days". from our demo, done about 2 years ago. our target audience was the 40 somethings who hang out at the more upscale clubs... not bikers.

feel free to tear me up on my youtube channel. i don't mind at all. do it quick, i'm taking these down in a week or so.

where do you get off thinking every band that's ever played a gig where they didn't belong should be treated like heroes?...why are musicians never to blame, it's always the bar owner or the audience?
...
as i've said, i didn't post the whole conversation with the guy. i did get a little rude with him at the end because he was talking smack about my hang out bar, and the bar owner who is family of mine...
I never said that they should be treated like heros, man. If someone doesn't want to leave a tip, then they shouldn't...and no one did. I was just saying that the guy obviously already had a bad gig. All the reasons that you say it was inappropriate for him to play there--he got. He walked out with no tips and just gas money. It sounded like you got irritated with the guy and was starting to give him a hard time. He already HAD a hard time.

Well, you didn't post the whole conversation. OK...that's your priviledge; but don't be suprised when we offer opinions based on incomplete information. I was commenting on what you had posted.

I think the fact that the bar owner is part of your family is the REAL beef here. I think that's why you got upset about the whole thing, really. We didn't know that in the first post. It's understandable. I would have been pissed about it too. When you bring that into the mix, I'm surprised you didn't beat the guy down at the music store!

As far as the "warning" or "threat" or whatever...dude...relax for a second and take a look at that...it's actually really funny, man! :D
I mean..."a slow night"? How many bikers does it take to beat up a guy in a purple velvet suit?
blink.gif

ROFLMAO!

That's just funny!!
(No offense meant)

So was this a local band or did they come from out of town?

I don't think anyone is going to bash you. There seems to be more curiosity as to why you got all verklempt. The wrong band finding themselves in the wrong venue is hardly an uncommon occurrence.

By your own admission the guy that owns your bar will let anyone play that wants to so, ***?

Take it out on him. Chew him a new one, get up, leave and take your money with you.

Have you never had a bad gig that you later whined about to a third party? Hang it there. It'll happen.

Sorry guy, I love a good rant but, I'm just not feelin' this one.

lol... depends on the size of the guy in the purple suit!

they came from out of town. it's a pretty small town, and we'd never seen them before. besides, somebody walking around in a purple suit is hard to miss around here...

the moral of the story... snobby tribute/cover bands who think they're the greatest thing their audience has ever seen really grind my gears.

Maybe you shouldn't see any then ;-)
And i bet audiences with that same attitude grinds the gears of musicians who are trying to entertain an un grateful bunch of people.

sounds like they had a "act" and it didn't go down well. Not their fault they were booked.
Maybe they should have taken off thier suits and put leather or Denim jackets on, tatty jeans and fake beards.
You know, so they look like they haven't made an effort.
