I guess what I'm trying to say is that you should't see range as a limiting factor. It may seem awkward at first but the more you do it the better you will know your capabilities and the better equipped you will be to take something that you feel you can't handle and turn it around and make something out of it.

I have a reasonable idea of my capabilities and "rock chick" songs sung lower tend to suit my voice much better than the typical male rock vocal, at least without significant key changes.

I would stick with R & B and country. Rockers usually have higher voices. If you can pull off some soulful stuff you can be golden. Also don't be afraid to use falsetto for some of the R & B.
