Cover Every Possible Gig With the Fewest Basses!

To cover all gigs with the fewest possible basses would be to take only 20 out of the 45 basses with me


Joking aside, I'd take

1) either of my Villex-loaded Voodoo Dingwall or the NVT Villex loaded Prima and

2) my Avatar Z1 or my "Uber Alles" Prima 5. WIth such a pair I can cover from deep dub to glass-shuttering pinch harmonics, from jazz to prog and ethnic and everything in between

The right player can cover any gig with a canoe paddle.

That being said, if image has anything to do with it, I'd go with a plain burst finish Jazz 5. There isn't a gig on earth where the band leader would look at you with that bass and say "you're not going to play THAT, are you?"

That bass goes EVERYWHERE I go, including some pretty funky (and I don't mean that in a good way) places. No point owning it if I'm not willing to take it with me where ever I go ...

You can thump it, slap it, solo and chord with it. Use it at a jazz date, play a wedding, do a blues jam, play a country gig. Coffee house duo, 9 piece funk band, studio date, rock festival, Sunday P&W ..... she's been with me at all of them over the past 18 months without any problems ...

But, no ... no Deathcore

If we are talking about color specific basses (which we aren't), a black 5 string Jazz IMO would work just fine for "deathcore".

I was using just one - my active fretted five. I recently bought a fretless MIM jazz 4 string for jazz combo and big band gigs. I could use my fretted, but the fretless is just more appropriate in my mind. Both are inexpensive but do the job very well.

You could take any bass and wrap it in duct tape or electrical tape and it would be fine for deathcore.
