I think Children of Bodom's cover of Britney Spears' "Oops I did it again" is hysterical. Alexi Laiho growls, spits, belches, and during the middle section babbles away in Finnish.

Their bassist has a nice groove on that cover too.

I think one reason I think it's so funny is because he (Laiho) is the hottest metal chick who's really a dude. It's f'n frightening that he's prettier than Britney will ever be.

Mary Beth Maziarz's Daydeam Believer is stunning. Very obvious - slow it down and make it intimate, but it is fantastic.

I've also got an awesome version of Bein' Green by Don Henley. Not that Kermit's original was slacking either ;-)

The Beatles, "Oh Darling", covered by the Bela Fleck and the Flecktones--Wow, if you haven't heard this, you definitely should. One of my favor covers, with a great jazzy backbeat and a terrific vocal performance by __________ (I can't remember right now, I'm sure someone on the board will know). The original was a classic and this one is too.

The singer is / was John Cowan, who played Bass and sang with Bela in the New Grass Revival.

Yeah, I love this version! It's on the signed sealed deliver album by the way, so not too hard to find. Beatle songs lend themself for great covers because they have such strong melodic material. I also love 'gotta get you into my life' by EW&F someone mentioned before.

I have to disagree with all the covers of Stevie Wonder songs mentioned before like 'higher ground'. In my opinion these covers ('don't you worry bout a thing' by incognito also comes to mind) never have the organic feeling and rhythmic subtleties that Stevie puts in the songs, they focus on the hook too much and the song gets too "over the top".
