This just makes me realize how awesome Metallica would have been if Les had gotten the gig.
I really love Jazz or Fusion covers of modern songs which is common, but not like getting that sound or just imitating the the lyrics I mean when someone puts their own spin on it like the covers you share, it's awesome. I can't think of many now, I know a couple from the top of my head...
Indeed. I always wondered as well. Seen Les cover a few Metallica songs through the years live. Always is amazing. I dont think the black album would have existed if Les got the gig.
I'm really surprised this one hasn't come up yet: a *great* and moving cover.
Sort of messes with your mind. Primus would not have existed and all those bass classics would never been recorded in all likelihood. Not sure it would have meant much of a different sound for And Justice and the Black album. Jason didn't seem to have any influence on the former and minimal on the latter.
Since roughly half of this album is covers, I'll go with the opening track of 'Where have all the good times gone?'. Definitely like the VH version better.
Pretty Woman? A tough call as the original Roy Orbison version was near perfect, but when a song gets Van Halen-ized I usually like it. At least Van Halen's video was (ahem) more interesting.
Dancing in the Streets...honestly don't care for ANY versions of that song. Original or any other remakes.
Big Bad Bill and Happy Trails were just throwaway tracks, but covers, nonetheless.
Their covers of "You Make Loving Fun" and "Foreplay/Long Time" are phenomenal.
