Cracked Sadowsky

You do know that the Musicmans have a very THICK finish compared to a sadowosky...
I have done on RnD for a few well known bass companies. Both in USA and abroad ...On body shapes, style, pickups development and electronics. Built my own line of basses and custom preamps waaaay back n the day...
I know a but about Poly and Nitro finishes..

I know Roger, He runs a tight ship. I doubt it left his shop like that.. Not that it is any big thing.. BUT what happened is the wood expanded or contracted ( it is already a thin POLY finish to start with. OR if customer pulled on neck and shifted it in the pocket, that will cause this to happen too..

If it really bothers you that much. Ask for a refund..

Of the five fenders and ebmm's I've owned, all bolt on necks, none have cracked.

Send it back.

.......or it is poor quality workmanship.

So when you left the store with the bass, the finish crack was not there. But one has appeared in the approx. 2 weeks since purchase. So, how can you prove to the store that this wasn't the result of something that happened from the date of purchase to today? I'm pretty sure once it leaves the store, the store is not responsible for superficial cracks in the finish. Like if you're on a gig on a tight stage and the headstock of your bass hits the cymbal or something. Now there's a ding in the bass. Nothing you can do about it. Just like if you drive a brand new car off the lot than 2 weeks later you notice a small ding in the paint. Would you bring it back to the dealer? Would you contact the manufacturer?

Ahhh....... the big conundrum I face, the stores faces, Roger faces.

It's a microscopic finish crack that obviously bothers you, so contact Roger!

If you are so sure it is a sign of bad craftsmanship, why are you asking for opinions? I've seen lots of new basses with similar cracks, it happens. The tightness of the neck pocket is an aesthetic choice, not a structural design one or in any way related to tone.

The recent mania for zero gaps on this style of neck join has created the situation, and for some reason has become a measuring stick for 'quality' or 'craftsmanship'. It equates necessarily to neither.

When I buy a car and inevitably get that first ding or scratch, I chalk it up to learning to be more careful. If however, the paint on a new car were to crack (or check) for no apparent reason, I would certainly be talking to the dealer ASAP. For me the same rules would apply to an expensive instrument, however my first inflicted ding would be categorized as "preliminary mojo".

I am not sure it is poor workmanship - I am just raising the possibility.

Dude, you are the ideal customer.

1. Accept imperfections in a new product.

2. It can't be the manufacturer.

I have worked in manufacturing - you are a dream customer, seriously.

No, dude, it's your lack of knowledge about paint finishes and your unrealistic expectations about what can happen as stuff gets used after its been in your possession. I doubt Roger owes you any satisfaction for that paint finish crack in that location.

You are simply the nightmare customer. Good luck with it.

So, after using the instrument a handful of times it starts to crack, would you be happy?

Would you ignore the issue buying it from someone else ?
