Cracked Sadowsky

Since the bass is such a horrible disaster. .Sell it me for $500... I'll play the heck out of it and it will look alot worse in one years time!.:smug::)

What are you doing inspecting the bass with a microscope eye anyway? You should be Playing the thing.. If it sounds great. Thats all that matters. They are To be played not worshiped!
Just sayin.

PS... the neck is NOT cracked. It is a small finish / hairline fault that happens to almost all boltons that have a Nice Secure neck.. You want that tight secure neck... Someone said it happens when the neck Pocket is Too Tight>. Its exactly what you want. you want the Neck pocket to be that tight. Its not a fault that it is too tight.. Its part of making the bass correctly... Thats what allows the neck and body to resonate together as much as possible.... sometime hairline develop. .It does not affect the bass at all.. .
Sadowsky uses a Thin finish which is what you want. It's already a POLY finish, so the thinner the better for tone.. Some of the Thick fender finishes smother the wood

Your Fenders dont have that happen because 1) the fender's finish is as thick as road pavement.. and 2) the neck pocket is most likely Loosey Goosey because it has a pocket and is just a "Close enough for mass production spec." bang them out and get it out the door thing..

Nothing wrong with your bass, Turn it at another angle and you probably wont see it. Just play the thing and get your groove tight...

While not desirable, it is commonplace and not an issue in my arena. If you like the bass and it plays well, holster the OCD and live with it. Any bass will see worse in its lifetime.

I agree with this comment........^^^^^ up above.

This finish crack is very common. I have 4 basses with them. One is a Fender Custom Shop '51 P Bass. Another is a Stingray. Lord knows why this happens. Probably the wood expanded or contracted from the routing in the neck pocket. Who knows?

You are likely to get a new Sadowsky and the same thing could happen sooner or later. Or, you might get another Sadowsky that's perfect and it's get's dinged from being played or something.

It's nerve racking having a new bass and worrying about it staying "factory fresh".

But ultimately, it's how you feel about it that matters. If you don't like the finish crack, exchange it or ask for a couple of hundred $ off what you paid for it.

Is everything else about the bass to your liking? Keep in mind that you might exchange it and get another one with no finish crack but then has something else that not quite right. (neck gap, outside strings are not same distance from the edge of the neck, it's a few ounces or more heavier than another one, nut is too deep or too high, grain pattern is bland, strings don't go dead center to the magnet poles..............)

I don't care how perfectly a bass is made, they are not perfect. They all have flaws.

Repainting a Sadowsky will be about $600.. MY NYC PJ5 was going to have it done becasue it was almost unsightly to me.. .. Wasnt worth it to refinish///.. I wound up selling to to a buddy whos using it on his jason aldean gigs now. Looked fine on TV last week..
Sounds like you have a bit of buyers remorse or cold feet about the whole Sadowsky thing in general. Return it if it doesn't float your boat over the Fenders.

The finish crack is common and almost insignificant. If it bugs you.... again, return it or have it repainted/touched up.
