Yes - it's pretty decent if you're in the mood for an IPA. I need to mix them in with other styles if I'm having a "session" though.

I got blitzed on that Red Hook. I drank 10 of them & then made the payment on a used Rickenbacker. I felt pretty OK the next day, kept myself hydrated through the night.

I flicked over to Amazon Instant Video today & realized I had watched most of that new Charlize Theron movie w/o remembering a minute of it, DOH!

Southern Tier Brewery's Pumking is my #1 and I always buy at least one case every autumn, usually to ration throughout the upcoming year. The hard part is restraining myself from overindulging in my "1 Pumking every two weeks" ration!

No love for the Nitro Milk Stout? Easily one of my favorite beers to ever flow pleasantly down my ever-thirsty gullet.

And although it's price makes it a rare treat, Gulden Draak is always well worth it. Stupid delicious, and the bottle is simply badass af. Pairs nicely with some nice relaxing Norwegian Black metal, the more kvlt the better. Throw in some sh***y weather and you're in for a hell of a night.

Man, now I'm thirsty. Might just have to pick up a sixxer of Nitro and a bottle of Three Philosophers (or maybe some Chimay since I don't know anywhere nearby that carries Gulden Draak) tomorrow for the release of Fallout 4... F*** yes.

Me too. To the OP, I tried Maudite and didn't find it very appealing. La Fin is especially good, a Belgian triple with (to me anyway) a light apple/citrus-y taste...just a delicious brew. Trois Pistoles is a very warm and boozy one, almost with a sherry element to it...great for fall and winter after a hearty meal. McCauslin, another Quebec brewer make some good stuff, like their Oatmeal Sout.

But my absolute fave goes to Aventinus Weisen Eisbock, a wheat ice beer from Germany. It's like a 12% ABV banana milkshake. You have been warned....

no worry, my original post was about 6 years ago and my palate has evolved quite a bit...and so has the beer industry. I can't even count how many beers didn't exist when I made that first post that are no go to favorites.

Around the time of this thread is when I started lurking on beer forums instead of bass forums. Ironically, one of the most popular threads on those sites is "what is the best beer for metal"

Yeah, I've had it a few times. As a self-professed IPA snob, I think it makes the cut -- it's drinkable, which means it's better than average -- but just barely. And frankly, I think all the Red Hook brews are that way: They're not "great" but they're definitely "good enough".

Here in town we have both New Belgium and Odell's brewing, both of them major players in craft beer. On the whole I like the O'Dell's line better, but there are individual beers on the New Belgium side I like.

I'm usually driving, so one pint is pretty much my limit, and I try to stay under 9%. I don't need trouble.

And there are about 20 more craft breweries in Fort Collins, co constant research is required. Research is my life!!
