Craiglist: Bassist needed

+1 with those who see nothing wrong with the ad. What am I supposed to be pointing and laughing at, if anything? They're a theatrical show band looking for a bassist who can both learn the songs well AND put on an energetic performance. And nothing wrong with wanting a drug free band member. Sober bandmates would probably be more reliable.

The last band I was in was one where I had to wear a mask and go ape jumping around on stage while still playing the songs tightly. We weren't playing Rush or Dream Theater, but the songs had some complexity and the arrangements were such that there was no room for error. One sour note and everyone would hear it. No amount of stage shenanigans could mask that.

It's a good ad, they're clear about what they want, and I hope they find a bassist that fits their vibe. The band seems like they'd be loads of fun live. If I lived in the Houston area, I'd go to one of their shows.

Some of you have to mellow out. First, the comments are joking. Second, if you can make fun of dad bands, jazz bands, and cover bands, why not others as well?

As they say, lighten up, Francis...
Wish Mods would delete threads whose only purpose is to ridicule other people playing their music. I'm now ready for OP to provide us with picture and videos so we can pick him/her apart.

The photo of the drummer, made me laugh out loud. So, who designed and drew that makeup? His tattoo artist cellmate?
This, is what the music 'scene' in much of America has descended into. The CL ads here in Reno, are pretty similar. There is virtually NO live music scene here anymore. Plenty of DJ's are making a living here. Wow. ANYONE can play MP3 files at home. And there's no talents making 100k a year doing that in public? A lot of grade 'C' non- metal bands are playing for no money in local clubs.
People pay 20 bucks to see three bands that look like that, and all sound like a kick drum wash at 130 Db, with Norelco razor accompaniment, and porn grunt vocals.

Typical TalkBass. Typical fornicating TalkBass. As far as Craigslist goes, this ad is pretty GD normal. Concise, clearly laid out, no stupid demands, clear anti-drug policy. But hey! They play metal! Look how stupid they are! Hurr durr TB circlejerk.

Yeah I got the same impression reading this thread. At least they're serious and trying to make something of their band. My dad used to say that people that listened to classical music were more cultured, and that people who listened to metal were a bit thick-headed. He was totally a tool for saying that and I let him know. He reminded me of Charles Winchester when he tried pulling that crap.

Sorry, Son, I was going back to the originators of the genre, not recent poseurs that stole their ideas.

Your signature quotes Jamerson, and now you're ignoring the roots of things? Me thinks you're a bit mixed up.

Au Contraire, those guys are obviously way beyond Kiss/Cooper, and considering what their general ages most likely are, it's apparent that they have Slipknot, Gwar, not to mention Marilyn Manson as role models; that's the world they grew up in, their point of reference(and I would guess couldn’t care less about any authenticity issues). Sure, they probably know about Kiss'n'Cooper, but those two acts weren't necessarily relevant to their lives. Besides, it's not like Alice, or even Kiss, were that original...

So, let's talk about roots...
