Craigslist concern

It's a scam. I had the same thing happen to me. The buyer also sent 3 money orders for a total of 3600 and asked me to send him back the difference...Called the money order company and we found out the numbers on the money orders were never issued. I actually still have the money orders and no he didn't get the bass.

I make sure I put in local only no trades from now on. If they aren't local to me I won't deal with them.

Who actually sends an email like that?

I'm sure it's automatically generated - they have a program that will just comb through CL and send the same message to every posting in the "for sale" threads.

My usual practice on CL is to give a keyword in the body of my posting, telling people to put that word in the subject line of their emails to me. Any emails that come in without the keyword I assume are spam.

Yep scam, I got a bunch of these all the time when I sold stuff on CL and eBay. The person would usually offer me close to $100 extra to hold the item for them, ship it to Nigeria or for my troubles....your getting ripped by this scammer! :p

Another thing to be mindful of, in addition to the interesting flow of the email, is they usually come from someone with two first name, ie Robert James.. Feel sorry for the legit Mr. James. LOL

But yeah, it's fairly easy to weed em out. Have interested parties but a code word in the subject line, that helps.
