Craigslist naccissist

I like it. Not only do you get a feel for what you need as a musician, but the character and atmosphere of the band. If it intimidates or offends you, move along. That was the whole point, and you'd be doing everyone a favor.

Sounds like a band of manly men who only stand for manly values with a little racism thrown in for good measure.;)

I read it twice, it's definitely macho testosterone driven, but I can't find the racism. Can you point it out for me?

Marginally off-topic rambling ahead: As a millennial I find it somewhat ironic that my generation, aka Generation Snowflake, are characterised as being "...too emotionally vulnerable to cope with views that challenge their own". Ironic, because this is exactly the sort of stunted emotional maturity I associate with the sort of people that post an advert like the one in the OP. A good portion of that advert indicates that these 32 year old lads don't want any sort of dissenting opinion, musical or political, within their band, so who is too emotionally vulnerable to deal with views that challenge their own here? Ted Nugenty guys that feel they always have to make the preemptive strike, not because they are insecure or 'less emotionally resilient', but because they are 1) right and 2) under threat from people trying to erode their freedoms, rights etc, ad nauseum. And all of this probably because they are no good at fleshing out their arguments or ideas with any real conviction.

Hey, there is an issue with millennials trying to turn university campuses into giant blanket forts, but I tend to blame this on crappy parenting more than anything else. Even the neckbeards that listen to the Milo Yiannopoulos Podcast on repeat, and think they are a persecuted minority, are snowflakey in their own special way. When Milo sweeps into their campuses, under heavy protection from campus security and/or campus police, and then spins his banal platitudes and tortuous high-camp act to twenty guffawing nerds in fedoras, isn't that just another form of the much dreaded 'safe space'? All of this seems to be people wanting to hold their ideas within a sealed Petri dish, rather than road-test any of their ideas. One of the reasons I'm personally wary of having children is because of the number of totally doted on, spoiled children I see about the place. Affluent parents appear to treat kids as an interesting piece of project management, and their children have to experience the world to the absolute fullest, regardless of whether this means they actually learn how to behave as a member of society or not. Push straight to the front of the queue! Run around this restaurant screaming! Trash a shop window display! This is your time to shine! My kids wouldn't be like that, but what happens if all their colleagues, peers, bosses, teachers etc were raised this way?

Anway, the guys that posted this advert messed up. They blew it! If they are that good a band, and that well connected within their locale, then they wouldn't be trawling CL for a bassist. They would phone up Mike, or Danny, or any number of their other bassist contacts in the biz. What did their last bassist die of? Did he turn up to rehearsals in a Prius or something? These adverts are a bit like CVs, ultimately, as they should tell you everything you need to know about the person/people short of actually meeting them. Unfortunately these guys shared too much! I'm reminded of my buddy here who once told me, loudly, "I've been working on my communication skills over this last year, and I'm much better at it now! I can have a conversation with anybody". A lack of self awareness dressed up as self awareness, much like the guys in the advert here. I once made the mistake of answering a Gumtree advert from a similarly delusional individual. Gigs lined up in London, world-changing album nearly in the can, producer lined up in the US... all utter rubbish unfortunately. A guy that was still trying to keep his highschool band afloat ten years after the fact, with music that might have registered a brief flicker on a seismograph fifteen years ago; all Kasabian sneer and Liam Gallagher swagger, but with Moon/June/Spoon lyrics pulled out of a hat at random. The guy was a fruit loop, ultimately.

I've played in a lot of country bands over the years, everything from hillbilly to rockabilly and i've never been hired for my politics. As far as that goes i've never been asked (in a musical setting) about my politics but once and that was by a BL putting together a band specifically to play rallies for a guy running for governor, and the subject came up in the audition by way of "keep your politics to yourself and play". Other than that it's always been about what i could do with the bass and would i show up on time prepared to play. I've also been hired based on someone i knew but it was always a fellow musicial type passing my number and a good reference to someone looking for a bass player.

I've seen the tribal approach to band building but mostly in P&W, and seriously deep metal bands where ads will stress that only true believers need apply, but this is the first ad i've ever seen where a pro player would also need to be a specific age as well as politically and philosophically aligned with the BL in order to land a country music job. I'm surprised there was no stipulation regards dress or overall "look" as well, but i guess that's so they won't scare off any prospects.

On a strictly personal note, i've played with all kinds of folks from all over the political and philosophical map and i've always focused on being a good bandmate who was there to do the best i could to put out a great musical product, but if some aligator mouthed bigot, racist, or whatever started in, i'd join right in and give them a taste of what it feels like to have some crass, vulgar A-hole denigrating them and their general outlook on life to their face rather than behind their back. So far i've been lucky and haven't started any fights or been fired for it, but as we continue to dig deeper into a tribal mentality where blind loyalty to a particular worldview dictates all our other choices, i'm sure that day is coming.

Sounds like either the gig from heaven ... or hell. Depends upon how full of #@$!%!#^!# they are.
:) That's pretty much how I felt reading it.

If they're telling the truth, then to me it just sounds like they're tired of wasting their time with people who come to audition without having a clue what they're doing. I've auditioned lots of drummers in my time and I know how frustrating it can get. You can be crystal clear that you're playing aggressive pop punk, looking for a hard hitting adrenaline pumped, hard hitting drummer... and still have Karen Carpenter show up expecting to land the gig.

I'm showing my age now, aren't I?

Auditioning people is the worst, and I don't even dip into random craigslisters, just word of mouth referals. Finding someone who is a personality fit, and can play, is a drag. I think being forward in a Craigslist ad us wise, but so is honesty. I know a guy who's "studio" is a Tascam 8 track and "gig connections" are 1 dive bar, but it doesn't stop him from posting these kind of ads.

Most people don't want their kids running and crying when someone hurts their feelings by calling them names. Unless it's legit character assassination. But hey whatever :D

Also, I did hear someone involved in that community actually refer to themselves as a special snowflake so that's the knowledge I was going off. Sorry if I offended you somehow.

I'm confused, can you tell me what "community" to which you refer?
