Well, yeah the whole thing's hilarious, but:

And the Grateful Dead being country? Wow ! Who knew?

The Dead play(ed) a whole bunch of classic country songs: Hank Sr. "You Win Again," Merle Haggard "Mama Tried," Marty Robbins "El Paso" and "Big Iron," Johnny Cash "Big River," and on and on. Some quite straight, and a few, in their own wacky psychedelic way. And they wrote a few straight country tunes of their own ("Mexicali Blues...").

Give me a box of Bud and a fifth of Jack and I can pass for 32. ... But, one must admit, every insane successful band had a guy, just like that guy, running promo. ... I'd suggest anyone in Philly, with nothing going one, jump on it. ... Good or bad it'll make a rememberable adventure. ... Just keep forgetting your wallet to rehearsals.

Give you a box of Bud and a fifth of Jack and *I* can pass for 32.

Oh, I'll agree 100% with you on that. (And Hank Sr. wrote some classics to sure.) But the Dead covering some of the numbers in the classic country songbook still doesn't make them a "country" band by the standards the language of that ad seems to be making a claim for.

But I was never a genre snob. I'll confess I like Randy Travis. And that an originals band I was in back in the '70s did a speed-metal cover version of Ghostriders in the Sky mixed in with the theme songs for Wild Wild West and The Magnificent Seven that always went over well. Especially with the punks. Guess a catchy song is a catchy song regardless of its genre. :)

Country music, Pennsylvania? Ha ha h:laugh:a ha h:roflmao:a ha! You guy are too much. :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Mmmhhh - once you leave suburban Philadelphia, the Midwest begins. But Philly isn't Nashville, not that many Country venues, & the ad didn't mention travel.

I didn't realize the Grateful Dead were Country. A Dead set list would open up a few more venues.

Would love to have someone go to a rehearsal & report back.

Literal Post in my local CL. Sounds like a real treat to be a part of this guy's band.

Bass Needed- for working band. Country with chops

We are looking for a dedicated bass player. Not interested if you have 3 other bands. It would be amazing if you actually knew country music, and had a respect for it....and not just Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline.....but everything from George Strait to Johnny Paycheck to The Grateful Dead, and everything in between. We are all 32. We can have as many gigs as we want. We have access to all the clubs in the area, and festivals, but we just can't line up a dedicated bass player. We have opened for Grammy winners. We have our own recording studio. We have paying gigs. We are not looking for a beginner, or someone who has never played the style. We are looking for someone who knows tons of American music and has the right chops, but enough taste to play pocket. You would absolutely be expected to learn a damn large amount of songs. You would absolutely need to know the number system, and you must definitely be able to handle dirty jokes. Not looking for a little snowflake who has his head up Rachel Maddows ass. AKA, we are looking for a pro. Upright slap would be great, and definitely no electric slap. And not looking for a commuter to drive in from 45 minutes away. It just won't work. Thanks and hope to hear from you.

Great...welcome to the era of skinhead country.

No.

Who says?
Most people don't want their kids running and crying when someone hurts their feelings by calling them names. Unless it's legit character assassination. But hey whatever :D

Also, I did hear someone involved in that community actually refer to themselves as a special snowflake so that's the knowledge I was going off. Sorry if I offended you somehow.

Yeah, that's better. Believe me, I am not picking on Girls on Film - that bass line is awesome.

I still remember the 1st time I heard Kajagoogoo: intro had potential [one hit wonder, maybe 1 day I'll take the time to listen to the album], up to about the first 40 seconds, then it's downhill. Maybe someone can do a remix, keep the intro & rework it from there.

WHERE ARE THESE SPECIAL LITTLE SNOWFLAKES?!?!

Despite there being a clear self separation between this poster and a large part of the country, I'm almost more insulted that he thinks there's a bass player out there that:

1. Knows the whole Nashville songbook
2. Understands theory at an advanced level
3. Is under 45 mins away from him
4. And somehow doesn't have a current gig

That person does not exist. If you know how to play, and you know all the tunes, and you're not a d***, you are working. Straight up. You aren't waiting for this waffle to save you from your misery of sitting at home sulking by the phone. And the fact that he is going to hire a bassist with the clear mindset that he is the best thing since sliced bread, the savior of someone's gigless woes, and the king of all things country is insulting to say the least. Be thankful for the good band mates you get, and maybe he won't be stuck trying to find replacements for members who refuse to put up with his s***.

Ray Charles had 2 C+W double-albums, & the Eagles definitely listened to Country; go to San Fran & ask around if any of these artists were Country.

The larger point is if you're playing the Grateful Dead, and you complain about snowflakes who can't take a joke, then you may need to listen to the live recordings, you may be missing something.
