Craigslist never ceases to amaze me

So about 3-4 weeks ago I caused a big uproar on the forums when I posted about set-list conflicts with this band I was auditioning for (there really wasn't a band yet, just a singer looking for people). It was pretty split 50-50 with consensus on that particular subject. Anyways, every so often I like to check out what's going on in the musician section on craigslist and lo-and-behold that guy I turned down is still looking for people and my god I really did dodge a bullet. No kidding, I talked to this guy for about 1/2 an hour and he kept going on about how this band has no egos and he wanted "real" rockers for this project. I get that looks can play a part in a band but there's no reason why he had to be a jerk about it. Well TB wanted to see his side and here it is.

Well, look at it from a business owner standpoint...

You need employees to keep your growing business running. Those employees need to follow specific rules and regulations to keep the business running and growing. Any deviation from the rules YOU set forth in YOUR business are dealt with firing the people who do not adhere towards your rules, and new employees are then searched for.

I totally understand that, but when the business is first starting you may not find exactly what you need right away. Especially if I was starting a brand new band in a brand new place with no contacts. You want to attract people not scare them away. I would rather work with a leader and not a boss, or else a toxic situation may brew and no one wants to be a part of that. I was in a situation like that were the BL took no responsibility and blamed the other band members for his mistakes.

Yeah, but if you're wearing the yellow sneakers when the ice breaks, at least you've got a chance they'll find you. Never wear blue and silver sneakers when treading on thin ice.

I have used CL and to me anyways skill comes before looks, we can talk about stage clothes later. My bands first gig we all looked like we came from 5 different bands but we played so well we got called for an encore. If you actually talked to this guy on the phone he talked about himself a lot and complained about the scene and people here in Albuquerque.

Craigslist isn’t the best place to find a gig/band-mate. Looks like the dude has wasted a good deal of time looking for all of his answers on CR. Maybe he should look at some: community boards
at music stores, colleges, band mix. Also FB is really good for scouting talent. CR is a crapshoot at best.

For sure, not to mention scammers. I get so many scammers and bots posting on CL. I've met some really great musicians at music stores. What's convenient you get to meet them right away and see their skill level.

Shaved head & goatee clone guy was Alain Johannes. For any unfamiliar with his work, he was the frontman for Eleven (both Jack Irons and Matt Cameron did their time in that band), he played bass in Queens of the Stone Age for Lullabies to Paralyze and the accompanying tour, and played in (and produced!) Them Crooked Vultures, the fantastic collaboration with Josh Homme from QOTSA on lead and vocals, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters on drums, and the almighty John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin (duh) on bass. I dunno, I'd say that'd badass enough to be in an Albuquerque cover band...
