Craigslist never ceases to amaze me

Best part about that ad is the "oversized sports jersey guy" is Duff Goldman! He is basically a rock star in the food world and owner of Charm City Cakes in Baltimore. He had a show called Ace of Cakes on Food Network for several years and makes some of the coolest cakes for some major celebrities and events! He also plays bass in a rock band. So he is way more famous than the guy who wrote that CL ad could ever dream of being!

Shaved head & goatee clone guy was Alain Johannes. For any unfamiliar with his work, he was the frontman for Eleven (both Jack Irons and Matt Cameron did their time in that band), he played bass in Queens of the Stone Age for Lullabies to Paralyze and the accompanying tour, and played in (and produced!) Them Crooked Vultures, the fantastic collaboration with Josh Homme from QOTSA on lead and vocals, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters on drums, and the almighty John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin (duh) on bass. I dunno, I'd say that'd badass enough to be in an Albuquerque cover band...
You beat me to the punch. What a phenomenal player he is. He’s great in Spinnerette too with Brody Dalle. Total sleeper of a record.

So about 3-4 weeks ago I caused a big uproar on the forums when I posted about set-list conflicts with this band I was auditioning for (there really wasn't a band yet, just a singer looking for people). It was pretty split 50-50 with consensus on that particular subject. Anyways, every so often I like to check out what's going on in the musician section on craigslist and lo-and-behold that guy I turned down is still looking for people and my god I really did dodge a bullet. I feel some of these responses are giving this CL guy way too much benefit of the doubt. Dude you TOTALLY dodged a bullet!

Get a bunch of this dudes pics, play to his ego.
Find out where his practice space is, and his calendar.

Put up profiles of this dude on Grinder.
He is rough and ready for bald fat criminal gangster pony tailed Steven Seagal leather bears who bring their own whips.
Many of them, this is going to be a big old wall to wall group party.

That's AWESOME!

I love the description: "basically all the best bands across a 30-year era." Dude is looking for a band to match the shuffle on his iPod nano.

Oh and the Steven Segal guy cracks me up - he rocks a Trace Elliot full rig like mine (the hairdo has me beat though)

Great stuff.
I just can't believe that "Some 60's some 70's, mostly 80's and some 90's hard rock covers. Bands like Def Leppard, Deep Purple, Priest, Ratt, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, Ozzy, Motley, Van Halen, Dio, Zepplin, Kiss, Rush, basically all the best bands across a 30-year era" is a viable coverband strategy in 2018 unless your goal is to play only middle-aged sausage fests in biker bars exclusively. This is the case in my area at least. Even the biker crowd will likely prefer Southern Rock and Country at this point.

One of my old bosses was a total D bag so I put a craigslist ad up saying that I had a 10 year old washer and dryer that were free to whoever picked them up first. Totally gave his cell # and name.

It's too bad CL dropped it's M4M section.
Also the next bad boss advertise his home for rent really cheap, and say it accepts Section 8.
That's a fave in San Francisco.

Seems like a pretty ridiculous thing to do to someone that never wronged OP personally.

Craigslist isn’t the best place to find a gig/band-mate. Looks like the dude has wasted a good deal of time looking for all of his answers on CR. Maybe he should look at some: community boards
at music stores, colleges, band mix. Also FB is really good for scouting talent. CR is a crapshoot at best.

Yup definite a crapshoot nowadays... though this conversation does take me back... I remember, way back in the day, “The Recycler” (this inky classified print newspaper sold at 7-Eleven & the like for $1.00-1.25) had this call-in ad system. It was free to post, and it had a 120 character limit or something like that... back then, besides high school and friends of friends, those ads were one of the best ways to find bandmates & ppl to jam with in SoCal.

Ps - super pretentious ad, and kind of a dick about it, but I guess he knows what he wants... “there’s only room for ONE ego in this band folks!”

Yeah, i dont see the problem. If you've ever used CL for finding a band, you'll know exactly why this guy is laying it out. I dont hear any ego in the post, just an idea of what he wants.
But he goes further than saying what he wants.

- He implies that every bald guy wants to come across the same way.
- He implies that every fat-necked guy wears the same piece of clothing, and for the same reasons.
- He implies that every musician and band in Albuquerque is subpar.

This is insultive. Abrasive. Negative. This is not how to become a Builder, or a valued member of one's musical community. Which are things he needs to become if he wants this project.
