good advise. I have never heard a Hartke amp that sounded good for either EB or UB. Just not fond of Hartke.

Double Bass Crappy tone with piezo pickup

good advise. I have never heard a Hartke amp that sounded good for either EB or UB. Just not fond of Hartke.
It's like trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Using a Hartke with a piezo just compounds the issue.

For bass guitar I love it. Best amp I've ever played. Like it better than the GK's, Edens, etc. Now, I think the aluminum speakers are too bright, which is how I ended up with the Boogie cabinet. The combination does everything I could ask from a bass guitar. But damn if it just sucks with the piezo.
One thing I did that has helped is I ditched the 2x10 cabinet and plugged into a 1x15. The HPF got rid of about 75% of the nastiness and gave a much stronger input level. Changing over to the 15" speaker got rid of about 75% of what was left, so the net result is that it's not bad right now. Certainly not as good as I would like, but workable.

Also remember that amplifying an upright will always be a compromise. It will never sound like the acoustic sound of the bass, but you can get close.
+1 While nothing will sound as detailed and rich as the instrument, it's possible with the right choice of equiptment to get a really good sound these days. Doing that requires having an informed understanding about pickups, amps, and cabinets. The Hartke, with it's 500 K ohm input impedance, pre amp voicing, and aluminum cone, just isn't suited for Double Bass Amplification, where the Carvin and Gallien Krueger are.

FWIW, the 7000 has a 100k input, and I'm using a Boogie cabinet with EV Paper speakers, not the Hartke aluminum cones. So it's not exactly as you describe. That said, it's obviously not perfect for the job at hand either.
I've never much liked any GK stuff I've played. You mention Carvin though, and I'm a big fan of their stuff. What Carvin gear is more appropriate for an upright? I'd love to move to a smaller combo.
