Yes, I suppose people could have made that choice based on something they imagined. I guess anything is possible. Just seems odd.

P.S. My goal isn't to use the 4 space and the 3 space together. I'll keep the CA9 by itself in the 3 space, and use a 2 space rack for the preamp(s).
Let's suppose that the 47 lb amp sounds a little better than the 13 lb amp I just purchased. Let's say that it has a bit more weight/authority in the bottom octaves. Speaking for myself only, I'm willing to give up a bit of ultimate sound quality for the 34 lb difference. I believe there could be a sonic difference between the amps in question. I don't have the luxury of comparing the 47 lb amp and the 13 lb amp in live situations over an extended period of time. If I did have that luxury, I would likely choose the lighter weight piece of gear, anyhow. But that's just me. YMMV. MOD (mine often does).

Perhaps my brain has an agenda of its own, but I honestly do not have a 'heavy gear fetish', and trust me, if anything, I would be wanting the lighter gear to sound/work better.Tom.

Hence my loaded question earlier regarding why anyone would choose to lug around a heavy amp when theoretically there is no difference in sound from some lighter amps. Personally, I don't believe that choice is made due to marketing, peer pressure or "smoke and mirrors".

Me neither. Some people operate that way perhaps, but not all. But I do think that it is possible for people's perceptions to be weighted by subconsious associations - even ones that go against the grain of their concious likes and dislikes. It is pretty natural to subconciously link "heavy" with "heavy-duty" and then draw on other associations without realizing it's even going on, and in subjective areas, we as humans are always doing this type of thing.
Not saying there is no difference in the amps sonics, nor am I saying that there is one. Got no axe to grind and haven't used a CA9 in PA for so long I wouldn't trust my colored recollections anyway. Just wanted to add that not all human subconcious filterning is built on positive desires only. Indeed, if history is any indication, the opposite seems just as likely ; }
My CA-6 is the only power amp I've ever owned; I don't have a clue as to how the others stack up in terms of tone. I'm actually more focused on features and reliability issues (I've had none). Yeah, it weighs a ton but always performs without fail....I find it a fair trade-off. I do wish the Crest had a 30 hz HPF and will take that into consideration when purchasing a second power amp.

Oh, I'm with you completely. I'm delighted with the tone I get from my Stewart World 2.1. 2100 watts, just 17 pounds.
That said, I saw a sweet deal on a CA9 (many thanks to TBer the dude) so I decided I wanted to hear for myself if there's a difference.
NOTE: just to make sure that the CA9 doesn't win based on power alone, I'm going to compare one channel of the CA9 against the Stewart in bridged mode.

Good point. It's very difficult 'round here to try to say that a bass with a maple fingerboard isnt' always brighter than the exact same model with a rosewood board.
Just making a point... I'm not trying to open THAT can of worms again!
But the question is, will there be a visible difference in my monitor if it was a picture of the Stewart 2.1?
