Cricket World Cup 2007

He could even have let someone in to sign an autograph or anything!

Well that would be assuming very lax security - I'm pretty sure they have ruled that out as any hotel that allowed autograph hunters in, would lose custom dramatically! :hmm:

It basically had to be somebody in the Pakistan party or one of them let somebody in...which means they are involved! :hmm:'

Well - you have missed a big point!!

So the West Indies is not one big country - it is a series of widely-spread Islands !

England are on a completely different island and it would have been physically impossible for anyone in the England party to have been training where they are and then got to the Hotel where Pakistan are staying - same goes for South Africa!!

They were talking to the England team on the radio and it might as well have happened across the other side of the world for them - they have been very shocked, but have actually got the News later than most of us in England!

I've missed nothing, I know the layout of the west indies, I know that the England team are on a different island. Why is it an argument with you never consists of actually addressing the point, it consists of you picking the easiest part of a post to dismantle and then doing just that? Easier to address one geographical inconsistency than it is to find an rebuttal to my actual point.

You know exactly what that point was: there are over a hundred cricketers out in the WI and most of them would have known Bob Woolmer in his capacity of a national coach or as coach of Warwickshire or in his former playing days. The fact remains that there are far more people than just the Pakistan team who he would have known and may have let into his room, and the sort of talk that is occuring (and you are a large part of) on this board is dangerous in its assumptions of Pakistani involvement.

The sort of crass generalisations you are making are don't help anyone and until the proper authorities have decided to charge someone, and at present they haven't, the speculations on this board are not helpful.

But you are completely wrong!!

These other people were all on other other islands at the time and there is absolutely no possibility that they could even have been on the same island at the time, let alone that hotel!

It is only the Pakistani squad/party who could possibly have been there and they are the only ones to be questioned by police!

OK so the Super-8 is decided. Everyone now has a 6 game run into the semi finals. 6 Games? I would have thought it would be 7 games and everyone playes everyone once. With only 6 games, everyone avoids one team in the super 8. Who does Austraia avoid - South Africa. Can't complain about that :)

I feel for the teams that have to play both South Africa AND Australia. They're at a disadvantage, especially considering that we don't have to play either!

EDIT:- Bangledesh V Bermuda is still under way. If Bangledesh get up, India is out of the tournament. Banledesh need 46 from 11 overs so it's delicatey poised to go either way.

Check it out, Ireland and Bangledesh in the super 8. Whoda thunk it?

I know - I personally think that's great.

You know, I can remember a time when no "team" wanted to play Sri Lanka because they were considered such bunnies - except for the individuals who wanted to up their averages of course.

I can also remember discussions that took place between my dad and his friends - when us Kiwis weren't considered worthy of a test spot.

Within a very short time the took out the ODI World Cup and still put on good performances nowadays.

It's a pity about the political despots running Zimbabwe otherwise we'd have yet another team giving the more established teams a constant hurry up.

I see the Police have a breakthrough with some hotel video evidence for the Bob Woolmer murder case.

Black Caps ( NZ ) are dropping like flies with injuries :rollno:

Ross Taylor ( batsman )- hamstring injury - doubtful starter for the first of super 8 rounds.

Gillespie ( bowler ) - no start in the first super 8 game due to his shoulder injury.

Vincent ( batsman - sharp fielder ) - wrist shattered by a delivery from Bond in the nets. They say he's worth at least 30 runs saved and one wicket with his fielding effort and can be devastating at times with the bat.

Tuffy ( Bowler ) - although his performance has been less than average lately, he's even in doubt- strained bicep.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

That should narrow it down if it is clear enough? I also noticed on the News, that there has been a lot of diplomatic work with Pakistan and the people involved in anti-corruption/betting in Cricket have turned up...:eyebrow:

Thats a great result for world cricket. Critics of the minnows even being there can now quietly chew their hats.
Go Ireland!

I really feel for NZ - it's a great shame for any side to struggle with injuries in this kind of tournament. Ross Taylor will be back, and as long as Bond is firing, they're not out yet.

.... but Ireland are not the same draw/attraction...:hmm:

You know Bruce, that was my first thought too....but I wonder......

Ireland would be the underdogs for sure - and I don't know about you, but so long as the underdogs have earned my respect then I'd go to a game they were playing in just to egg them on to greater heights and and give them support.

I remember the film Cool Running, which is very topical for my explanation - at the end even the competitors were urging the Jamaicans on to do well - and they did well considering.

Therefore, I wouldn't mind betting that Ireland will get a lot more support than we would have thought a couple of weeks ago!

If there're are Indians anywhere near the game, they'll go and see it regardless of who is playing!!!!

Or they might have taken the early plane home...:hmm:

This has been the disappointing thing for me - so... empty grounds with no atmosphere - quite depressing and a big contrast to matches in Australia or England!

Jimmy Adams did mention on Sky, though - that the ticket prices are pretty high for the locals - he said $40 US - $50 - which is a big chunk of money for them.

They will have to pick and choose and really it is only the "tourists" who can afford these prices...:(

i'm gonna have to get someone to explain to me how cricket is played

Here ya go;

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

That's such an oldie but a goodie. After all these years I still laugh ever time I read this :)

We should change it to somehow incorporate the fact that everything is a "Wicket".

Is it just me, or could we almost have a World Cup of Injuries. Who'd win:

Australia - Symond's, Lee's Ankle, Ponting's back, M. Clarke's hip, Watson's Hamstring, Haydn's big toe.

NZ - Oram's finger, Vettori's back, Bond's hammys, Taylor's hammys, Gillespies Shoulder, Vincent's wrist, Fulton's finger, McMillan's toe, Tuffey's arm,

England - Vaughn's hammys, Anderson's back/finger/hangover, Pietersen's rib, Lewis's Ankle.

So far NZ is in front but as you can see, Austr and England aren't without injury problems..............

I heard something about an Irishman's foot but other than that, I'm not aware of any injury problems for any of the other teams.
