Cricket World Cup 2007

Lasith Malinga, who scored 4 successive wickets - in 4 balls - what a legend!

Yes his action is rather weird and he seems to pick up a lot of wickets when the ball is dirtier. He did that to us here when they were touring earlier on this year and the batsmen said the ball coming out of his hand atthat odd angle was very hard to pick up.

You can never rest when he's bowling.....

Wow that's my first Double Hat-Trick! I've seen a few normal Hat-Tricks but I don't think I've ever seen a double before. This is quite exciting :)

Here's the Youtube link for anyone who hasn't seen it:-

Not to mention what it'll do to the nerve of the South Africans. They're a talented team for sure, but they're not as mentally tough as their No 1 ranking would suggest IMO. Hopefully this will rattle their batting confidence a little for the rest of the tournament.

Looks like the Kiwi's have beaten the Windies today. The home team is 0-2 in the Super Eight. You'd have to say they're in trouble.

I notice England play Ireland next. Dare I say there should be some venom in that game, especially if England lose...........

Hehe - could be a good time to take out some shares in an Irish pub then!

The Kiwis made a bit of a hash of their initial batting effort to chase the 179 target against the Windies though. Duck for Fulton, small score for Hamish Marshall ( although he must be jet-lagged to hell just stepping out of a plane the day before! ) and Fleming's lazy run out.

What I would bet on - is Ed Joyce opening the England innings and getting a huge score - as he's actually Irish!! :p

Whereas Ireland's best player is Australian! ;)

Whenever I've seen them batting in the recent games - it has always been McMillan and Styris batting toegether together to get them out of a hole!

It's just funny as with their helmets on, they look unlikely heroes - like the gritty, older players who are the mainstay of English County Cricket - but are always overlooked by England in favour of flashier players!

So - their sort of "chunky" look and determined faces, are reminiscent of another age of cricket! ;)

....They're are 20 years behind Australia in everything so why should be cricket be any different :)....

We are actually between 2 - 5 hours ahead of Australia, come to think of it we're ahead of the rest of the world. :hyper:

.....you guys are gonna hammer me when Australia eventualy lose a game arent you?

Hammer wasn't quite what I had in mind....you didn't think you were going to get off that easy do you :ninja: :smug:

Well that shows you why I'm not a betting man!! :p

Ed Joyce helped the Irish more than England!! ;)
You Brits should be demanding to see his passport :)

What a bugger about the weather last night. I rushed home after my gig to watch the Austr V Bangers on the TV, only to find they were playing infomercials instead. I went to bed.

I heard later Gilly and Haydo demolished em.... how good has Haydo been on this tournament so far!!!!!!!!!

OK it's still early, but looking at the table so far, I'm prepared to say Bangers, Ireland, and the Windies are out of it. Of the 5 remaining teams, one of them will miss out on a semi-finals berth. Who will it be?

Australia
NZ
Sri Lanka
South Africa
England

All trash talk aside for a moment...... Austr, NZ and Sri Lanka have been in very good form. South Africa has also been in good form and with a No 1 ranking in the world, they're gonna be hard to leave out. Eng beat Austr in the recent ODI series but in all honesty, they didn't look good at all for most of the season. Nor have they look too electrifying during the World Cup so far, especially during their loss to NZ . IMO will likely fall by the wayside next.

Anyone agree?

....Anyone agree?

Phew, that's a tough call to predict.....very tough.

England may have had the speed wobbles at times, but now and again rise from the ashes ( no pun intended ) to provide a surprise.

It's easier to consider which of the teams fight to the last ball and hang on in there with the intention of capturing the last minute surprise. These are the teams most likely to make the semis and in this case you'd have to have say Australia, Sri Lank and New Zealand have exhibited this more in the recent past than Sth Africa and England.

But, in the words of Richie Benaud - "Cricket's a funny game!"

I'm too chicken to bet one way or another I'm afraid!
