Nixon hits a 6 and a 4 in that over. Eng Need 19 from 2 overs. Surely they'll win it from here.......

3 runs needed from the last ball, Bopara on strike and.......... HE'S OUT. SL wins by 2 runs.
Finally a cliff-hanger. Well done England. I thought you were going to get beaten easily today but that was a great fight.
Yeah looks like Pieterson took a while to get his runs too. For what it's worth, Eng aren't the only team to strugle against this SL bowling attack. Malinga has been very hard to manage and the remaining SL bowlers have capitalised. This bowling attack is going to be their strength going into the semis and look out any team who underestimates them.........I Even Ian Bell...he might have scored 47 but look how many balls it took him! This isn't a test match!

Sodding typical though, whenever there's a tight finish in whatever sport it's England who are on the losing end. Is it written into our genes that we just can't win close matches?![]()

How quickly we forget. I seem to remember England winning a test match against us during the 05 Ashes series by 2 runs. The luck went with you that day because you made it go with you.Sodding typical though, whenever there's a tight finish in whatever sport it's England who are on the losing end. What? If the chappel Hadlee series has taught me anything, it's that team selection has absolutely nothing to do with the psychology of the game. The world is still crowing about our loss in NZ there and they never ever mention that we sent a second string team. The assumption is always that you field your best team for every game, and therefore we should - if for no other reason than to stop teams gaining confidence from beating us. They don't care about our selection process, they just want to win. If our selectors keep up with the "it's ok to lose certain games" mentality, we're headed for disaster IMO.I think what the selectors were looking at was the fact that, this game doesn't really matter - Australia are almost guaraunteed a place in the final four - so a dropped game doesn't really matter.
Also - how do you bowl to Peitersen?
There's the other point, that ViV's ground is a sandy deck with no variation. Kinda makes any kind of spin easy to hit. I'm sure Symonds would've been bowling spin elsewhere.
But - good win.

Once we started bowling to the "corridor of uncertainty" ...
