Cricket World Cup 2007

Well - the World Cup is still dominating News on the BBC!

So - Geoffrey Boycott is saying that Fletcher should be sacked for running a poorly-disciplined ship; but making the headlines is the fact that Police are treating Bob Woolmer's death as suspicious!!

I can see the speculation - somebody has seen it that the whole of Pakistan has been "shamed" by this poor run that might be seen as down to him - i.e. Losing the series to England and being branded as cheats by Umpire Hair, players get found to be taking drugs and then they get bumped out of the World Cup by Ireland!

:hmm:

Geoffrey Boycott and Ian Chappell deserve each other. Not all the grape vines in France could "wine" as much as those two. Boring farts they are! :hiding:

but making the headlines is the fact that Police are treating Bob Woolmer's death as suspicious!!

Well, I bet you along with millions of others were suspicious of his sudden death - I know I was.

I think those people on the news who are crying that "the team brought shame on us" are not telling the truth. Substitute "the team brought shame on us" with "I lost money on this but someone made big-time" and you're starting to get more closer to the truth.

Heaven forbid, if Woolmer has been disposed of....then what REAL reason, other than money, would there be to get rid of him? Some one ( or more ) out there, felt he may have known too much perhaps.

All speculation, but the gut feels unfortunatley tells me there's foul play at hand here.

Poor old West Indies - how are they going to manage this crisis and keep th ICC World Cup out of a cloud?

We are in for an interesting few weeks, and not just cricket.

So sad this happens to such a great game.....or am I counting my chickens too early?

Cricket isn't in turmoil, Pakistani cricket is in turmoil. Big difference!

I wonder why Inzzamam really resigned? I believe that in time the whole story will come out, and it will be a story of mafia style standover tactics, gambling empires, vested interests, and a whole lot of other stuff hollywood will be all over like a rash. Looks like murder is now on that list. I must admit Mo I shared your gut feeling that something foul was going on, even when I read that his death was supposedly from a heart attack.

I wonder why Inzzamam really resigned?

mmmm....he has to return to Pakistan...and live. Less chance of being blown up if you're a "resigned captain" perhaps.

Standover tactics? .....absolutely!

Yes - the part that pricked my ears up was the bit about being diabetic and the prevoius report of vomit and blood. My diabetic son and I looked at that, the eyes rolled and we both said in unison "aha - a smoke screen!" :ninja:

Well - he's still going to play tests.

I saw this as an admission of the fact that he is not up to running a quick single - which everybody else has known for many years now!! :p

I wonder if Darryl Hair is thinking his career might get back on track now...:hmm:

I just heard a news bulletin on the radio at work - apparently we have another corpse! .

Damn - I cannot find anything about this on our news here, or the internet - do you have any more details?

Good grief Pete, I agree with you, imagine the implications.

My fear is that the Carribean Police may be inclined to be "influenced", or have I watched too much Perry Mason? :ninja:

Mo

EDIT: - FOUND IT! A second death involving people asscociated with Sunday's Ireland-Pakistan Cricket World Cup match has been reported today.

The Associated Press reported that Former Irish Cricket Union president Bob Kerr died of a suspected heart attack in Kingston, Jamaica during the night.

AP said Kerr died on his way to hospital after his wife called hotel staff in the middle of the night.

Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer died on Monday, hours after Ireland's upset victory.

Well the news this morning is that Bob Woolmer was found to have a broken boke in his neck which is not consistent with any illnesses of natural causes. So far I haven't heard any more about Bob Kerr. All I know is I wouldn't want to be in the Carribean now if my name is Bob.

:) Nice knowing you!

It's official - Bob Woolmer was strangled. West Indian police have officially launched a murder investigation :(

Yup - they are also saying that it must have been somebody he knew - which basically narrows it down to the Pakistan Cricket party!

Can it possibly get any worse for the Pakistan Cricket Team!!

So - ball-tempering allegations, refusing to play in England, drug bans, dumped out of the World Cup by Ireland and now murdering the coach...? :hmm:

Unbelievable!

Eh...?

So Pakistan lost to Ireland and that meant they couldn't progress any further - what else would you call it?

If they had beaten Ireland they would still be in it!

True.

Ireland have been playing well and really do mean business I will give you that.

Considering their previous woes and their smoke screen of refusing to speak English at ICC2007 , then without the death of Bob Woolmer the word " capitulation" spings to the fore.

However, throw Woolmer's death straight after defeat into it, and capitulation doesn't add up - but match fixing does.

I gues we are all speculating here as to "why" and "who", but right at the moment it seems to be a "Pakistani matter"

I would not rule out crazy fan/s ( but how did they get into his room? ) or a frustrated Paki team member/s.

Sorry time for cricket like you say.

:hmm:

Mo

I just heard on the radio that all of the Pakistan team have been interviewed, but none are under suspicion..?

Several people - like Alan Donald - have been saying that the World Cup should be called off!

I mean if people are going to be murdered in their hotel rooms - are any of the players safe?

However, throw Woolmer's death straight after defeat into it, and capitulation doesn't add up - but match fixing does.

I'm struggling to think of scenarios - but you think maybe the Pakistan team throws the game - Inzi throws his wicket away deliberately?

Bob Woolmer gets wind of it and threatens to go to the press and expose corruption, gambling syndicate fraud or something like that, so he has to be "shut up"...? :hmm:

I hope you never get called for jury service...you've jumped the gun enourmously there...yes, he was the Pakistan cricket coach, but to say it being someone he knew narrows it down to the Pakistan cricket team is hugely prejudicial! Woolmer would have known most of the English team, most of the South African team and countless other individuals in the world of cricket.

He could even have let someone in to sign an autograph or anything! However remote the possibility all avenues must be considered before we leap to conclusions.

And the reason the Pakistan team have been interviewed is because everyone in the same hotel was interviewed, and of course the coach was in the same hotel as the team.

I'm not saying it was a member of the Pakistan team, I'm not saying it wasn't, I'm just saying let's remain objective, rational and not jump to conclusions quite so soon.

Woolmer would have known most of the English team, most of the South African team ...

Well - you have missed a big point!!

So the West Indies is not one big country - it is a series of widely-spread Islands !

England are on a completely different island and it would have been physically impossible for anyone in the England party to have been training where they are and then got to the Hotel where Pakistan are staying - same goes for South Africa!!

They were talking to the England team on the radio and it might as well have happened across the other side of the world for them - they have been very shocked, but have actually got the News later than most of us in England!
