Crossover Coming from Guitar

Hey all,

First, thanks for having this forum... look forward to using this great resource.

I am a guitarist of 15 years (mostly jazz, rock, and blues) and started playing bass about 1 year ago so that I could lay down my own basslines on recordings (mix of rock/electronic/breakbeat/jazz/hiphop) instead of using a MIDI controller or relying on sometimes flaky musical friends.

Randomly, I also wound up playing bass in the live band of a local hip hop artist...so that's how I arrived here:

a) need to set up a live bass rig (medium $, nothing too crazy)

b) would genuinely like to become a great bassist of several genres (see profile). Should be able to accomplish this with some sweat and blood, since the guitar experience (esp. jazz) has given me the fundamental theory/fretboard knowledge of chord shapes, modes, etc.

I'll research and/or post those questions in the appropriate sub forums, although if you see this post and can point me in any particular directions that'd be awesome.

Cheers,
Dave
