OK, this thread is back on page 50 or something, so I don't feel bad about hi-jacking it some more.
I have an update. Today I went and picked up an 8 ohm Carvin BR410. I got it locally from a CL ad for $150. While it isn't identical to my Carvin RL410, it is the same impedance and it is loaded with the same drivers. This gives me a 4 ohm load, allowing me to run the rig full range and suck ( allegedly) 1000 watts out of my amp ( RL1000). I figured Bassman Paul was probably right about the 18" and whether or not I was damaging the cab, my rig sounds WAY better with 2, 410s than it did with a 410 and a 118.
The other added bonus is now I can stop using the old Peavey 2x15 for a sub and start using the Carvin. I have a QSC GX5 and it is rated at 700 watts @4ohms, so the 800 watt, 4ohm cabinet will thump. I tried it before and it does.
